Why not 6 planes per pilot? Because speed is the utmost importance when keeping the pressure on your attack. As I posted in another thread, my forte is quick launching of sorties.
With a Lex, Ticon or Midway the minimum FP is 5 for me. When the number of FP on board changes, the sequence and loading varies. Even with just 5 FP it can be done if you know how. But if they double team on you, better load 8FP. That is where having a lot of pilots comes in, giving you the option of changing your load out.
Why not 6 planes per pilot when numbers gives more edge to your squadron? Because 9 planes can defeat 12 planes if you know how. Because 15 planes (quick launch) can defeat 12 planes (6/6launch).
Did all the test on different load outs and the "thatch weave" technique of dogfighting works best for me.
bobtiger, I never carry guns on my cv (not even aa). My pilots are my weapon and from cv1 I honed my skills on using my pilots. Exceptions would be Oyodo, Mog-CV and Ise-CV (fun ships).
Cleveland has been and is my best escort ship if needed. In one game towards the end I got sunk and my Cleveland got to sink a bb3 (1/3 life) and a moltke. The whole team was cheering my escort........ ^_^
