One method that I have seen work very effectively is this.

A CL or CA or larger, has an extra set of gunners or some high level AA gunners. They use the main guns for distance and high damage. But when DDs get in close, the switch to the T mounts which fire much faster and use normal ammo to destroy quickly the DDs that come in to torp. Rapid fire and low damage add up very fast to ANY ship.

it really depends on wut kind of dd ur using to go without guns. Generally speaking, i believe that if u have atleast 2 t slots, u should be using some torps, if u only have 1, just go all guns.

or you could forget the torps and go all guns :D

I find that its better to use only guns so you can concentrate more and have more armor, I even use armor at dd stage

You can't. Your mains guns are on the R slot. Your middle guns are your T slots.
