I have a crazy idea, how about stop yelling at CV drivers? Every mistake is put under a microscope. Drive a BB and make mistakes, no one cares. Drive a CV and make a mistake and the game isn't very fun. Yesterday being my first time as a CV in GB2 I had some interesting moments. Here are some of my favorites:
I had a BB5 call me a noob because I wasn't scouting for him. Meanwhile, I had a flight of six T1s all get shot down by a single T4. Expecting a L60 CV to put fighters over the enemy' heads as scouts and last long enough to matter is stupid. When I stated that I was getting wiped out and doing the bet I could, it was "an excuse".
I had a BB3 call me a noob because I wasn't scouting for him either. That one actually made me laugh, as he, a BB4 and a BB5 didn't have scouts either and again with limited vision from my bombers and T1s dropping in the drink I really wasn't in a position to do much there to help. How you could have a ship with 18" guns and no way to sight for them on your own if needed is beyond me.
I had another BB driver demand I give "vision". No location, no target, nothing, just vision. Then, of course, I'm a noob for not lighting up the right place on the map.
Of course, I had my own screw ups. I wasn't paying attention to the battle map and I didn't realize that the all-star BB cast had all been wiped out in front of me. As flag, down I went under a hail of 16" salvos. Yea, that was an error on my part that shouldn't have happened and I heard about it.
My point is that this is a game. You can't expect people not to make mistakes and you certainly can't expect impossible things, like a L60 ship with T1s taking on a L120 Midway that is carrying nothing but fighters. Demanding the impossible, name calling and belittling isn't conducive to bringing CVs to the game. Losing some battles, having crew death and mixed results I was ok with. The attitudes of some of my fellow NF BB players I'm not ok with, which leads to my final point.
The only people who didn't yell at me were other CVs. I had them offer tips, offer free pilots, reminders and of course tactical aid. With a little bit of help, I was able to make a difference. I sunk ships, I shot down scouts and at times I even was able to give vision to critical targets. The point is that CV players seem to know well how demanding it is for a L60 ship with a new learning player to face not only bigger ships but more skilled competition and they seemed willing to help, as opposed to tear down or chase away players.
The hallmark of a good leader is a person that can inspire followers who are not successful, to change and become successful. If you have CV-less GB2 rooms, my suggestion is for the BB community to be a little bit more friendly to the CV community, especially the low level CV community. After all, if there are complaints that the game is "dying" why chase out new people????
