  • Guidelines for FM Work

A month ago (probably more, sorry about that) you all gave us your thoughts about
what was going on with the Forum Mods Team. You gave us feedback on what you
thought was wrong and needed change and also gave us some solutions for it. We
have been working with that information and decided some guidelines that will help
us improve our FM work.

Now we will cover the main issues that were pointed out by your comments and we
will explain how things will work out from now on, this will provide consistency for
most FM actions:

1. "We don't have to send you a PM" Issue:

- All locked, but not binned threads should have a post at the end of the thread
explaining why the thread was locked. In this situation, no PM needs to be sent since
the reasons have been provided for all to read and should be clear enough so no
questions arise.
- In the event that a post has been binned a PM should be sent explaining to the
OP why the thread has been nuked. The PM will also notify that if the OP has issues
with the reasons they should submit a support ticket under 밊orum" and will be
further reviewed.
- Threads that contain Pornography, Hacking, Scams, Impersonation,
Advertisements for other games, Excessive Profanity (at least 5), and Legal Action
threads, will be binned without PMs.
- PMs for individual posts that have been hidden should be sent always.
However, in the event that a thread involves massive amounts of posts being hidden
then hide all necessary posts and post a reply explaining the reasons that action
was taken.

2. 밫oo many thread locking" Issue:

- While the rules on flaming (zero constructive comments) should be continued to
be enforced, we will try to let threads develop a little bit more. We will try to clean
threads that aren뭪 too far out of the original thread and ONLY when they are truly
derailed an no constructive discussions can take place, a thread will be locked.
Offending authors will be warned in the final FM Reply post to the thread.

3. 밯e can뭪 speak about SDE" Issue:

- This issue comes mainly because people don뭪 know how to address this topic.
If you read the rules, constructive feedback is encouraged, which means an SDE
thread is welcomed as long as it can contribute to an improvement. Express your
problem and develop a solution to be worked on.
- Never the less. What we will do with these threads is to edit the OP뭩 thread
making sure it is contributing and not just cursing SDE/GMs/TNF etc. If there is
something to be saved it will be and if not it will get locked.
- We will lock the threads and tell the OP that the thread will be allowed as long
as he/she modifies the thread to include constructive feedback. If the thread
continues to do nothing but flame, post will be nuked.

4. 밫oo many stickies" Issue:

- We will try and prevent stickies from taking up more than 40% of the space on
the first page of any section. If something like this happens we will try and merge as
many topics as possible into a metapost.

5. 밯e don뭪 know which FM edited my post" Issue:

- We will leave a mark so that players know who and what was edited.
Something simple such as 밇dited for xxxx - FMx"

6. 밳ou implement the rules as you want them" Issue

- We will go over the currently existing Forum Rules, identify anything that is NOT
clear and that needs clarification. We will update the forum rules once again to make
sure that the definitions are clear to us and to the community. We will also update
the rules to include some that have been announced but not written in the FR
Document. Rule enforcement post-changes should be applied as consistently as
possible understanding that all situations are different and that there will always be
subjectivity in some FM actions. We will be giving more updates about this point as
we keep working on this.

Thanks to everyone that gave their feedback to us and made this work possible.
Please remember you can always give new suggestions and feedback through
regular channels like PMs to Forum Mods or by sending a Support Ticket under Forum.
We will always read them and consider them.

Also, if you ever feel the need to open a thread to give us feedback on what we are
doing, please remember to give constructive feedback without flaming or ranting, you
can express your point of view without it and we will understand.

Sincerely yours,
FM Team

" I dont even know the FM1 teammembers. But what i hear from most of the people
here, including contributers like splid, lukas, and you, is that back then the FMs and
TNF
were power hungry."

It's quite obvious that you don't know who the first FM team members were since
Lukas, Splid, and I were in that group.

There have been, as far as I can tell, three incarnations of FMs. The first group was
removed with no warning because of complaints that they were Arizona/Jedi biased
and iyoung did not like those in the group. The second FM group was removed due to
poor performance or high attrition. And, now, we have the current group.

Hence why I take it as a personal affront that you accuse them of being power
hungry with no knowledge of the events and purely spewing nonsense that you've
heard second or third hand. If you are misunderstanding the sarcasm coming from
Splid or Me, well I don't know what to tell you. My comments would probably look
pretty confusing if you didn't know that I was an FM when it was first created, but
the more you know.

I continue to stand by my record as a FM and I dare anyone to provide evidence of
me showing bias or any sort of power abuse. I know for a fact that it doesn't exist.

I want to set this straight GT. I was not very active on the forums when the first FM team
was here, so i was not here to see them, or how they acted. I dont even know the FM1 team
members. But what i hear from most of the people here, including contributers like splid,
lukas, and you, is that back then the FMs and TNF were power hungry. As high contributing
members of this community, i treat your word as credible. Now, as i see your sarcasm, im
not sure if what lukas or splid said was implied sarcasm, or if they were being serious.
Im not saying that this FM team is perfect. However i will make a promise to actively try
to make it better... but in order to do that we need the communities active cooperation
and feedback! =\

When a FM gets his feelings hurt when he gets schooled on the terminology of
BALANCE, then runs off to form his own league and intentionally omits the fleets of
people who disagreed with him happens, that person needs to be removed. The
personal vendetta and bias displayed by that person should NEVER happen in a league
situation, or from a FM. He needs to be removed now.

To add...

I stand behind the actions of people like Splid, Lukas, LordKelvin, me and
several others from the original FM team.

We followed the forum rules far more than the TNF mods themselves at the time.

I know! I am incredibly power hungry! We ruined the forums and they were near
irreparable.

Perhaps you could continue to blast the first FM team with impunity. That'd be
awesome to read.

Also, I wonder who you hear it from. From what I hear, TNF mods got upset that the
FM mods were actually calling them out for biased moderating and several of the TNF
mods worked from the second the FM thing was introduced to get rid of us because
they felt it was disrespectful that the position was created. Not to mention the
numerous complaints purely because a large percentage of the mods were from
Arizona and several of them were in the same fleet.

But, hey, keep posting about what you hear. That you are randomly throwing out
nonsense while also talking about how the current team is beyond reproach and
totally not like previous teams just makes it funny.

The funny thing about what people hear....the people talking about it aren't always
on the up and up. It's obvious my sarcasm directed at an FM for bashing people with,
apparently, one side of the story just proves that I am biased. As long as we can
agree that the first group of FMs was terrible,
that's all that matters, right?

I dont know how to first FM team was. From what i hear from you, lj, splid, and others it
seems as some were powerhungry.

And your sarcasm isnt helping fix any problems here >.>

"That being said, Im 99.9% sure the FM team we have now is committed to actually
helping these forums out, and not just some powerhungry people."

I know!

That first FM team? Ridiculous. Those power hungry bastards had no idea how to
actually fix anything.

Ice, are you positive it existed? Ive edited plenty of opening/first posts and it hasnt
automatically been inserted. Think it was removed maybe?

"it doesn't happen with this FM team"

I apologize. I didnt know about the entire SK drama. That being said, Im 99.9% sure the FM
team we have now is committed to actually helping these forums out, and not just some
powerhungry people.

Feel free to drop in a support ticket and tell us what your really think of the FM team,
as a whole, or individually, or whatever. Give us a Yay or a Nay. We would love to hear
even the most harsh feedback... Its better then no feedback.

lol "it doesn't happen with this FM team"

Why, I remember that first FM team. They were ridiculously biased and they ruined the
forums for months. Those bastards.
