  • Reason why I don't give fighter cover

[For those who don't know, I play on ADSL' account..so I do know about playing with
a CV, and with an AAA ship, kinda.]

When I first started playing CV, I thought that I should give fighter cover to all the
BBs/CAs/CLs etc in the team. However, in one of my first games, I watched helpless
as four of my fighters died to friendly flak.
390x4 = 1560 credits that I have to find someway. Given that i only have torp
bombers, and I'm still not that good at them, 1560 credits is still a huge amount to
lose from friendly fire, when they could almost earn their return in shooting bombers.
Moreover, I was told it was my fault for letting my fighters attack the enemy..

This happened several times, even when I had fighters up the sky protecting the bb
with no enemy around, stupid aa Z1 would still shoot at them.

When my fighters die to Friendly Fire, sometimes peopel say sorry. Sure, it doesnt'
give back the 390 credits per fighter, but it shows a sign of respect and that the
person isn't a complete asshole.

Then I realised, that the fighters would be better spent covering my ass because my
team won't do it for me. Good escorts are few and far between and it REALLY sucks
being attacked by four DDs with no friendlies around...

So if you aren't willing to scratch my back, I won't scratch yours. That said, I do still
give fighter cover to some people.

Food for thought. Any other CVs agree? Anyone disagree? Find this is a stupid policy?

If all you want is to make exp or credits, you don't want to play big/all welcome anyways,
unless you got super BB (thats capped out), kita, or loads of dive bombers....

well jsut like what i do.. it's the simplicity of not putting your fighters OVER them..
but a screen AHEAD of them.. take out the bombers before they corss the
boundaries set fourth by the island.. it's that simple..

Basic principle. When in doubt, don't fire.
I will soon be experiencing the world of CV's. I've spent the time to level pilots and
sacrafice some support slots for my soon to be BB. Who pays the costs?

In a game where everyone predominately plays for themselves, I'm not sure I'm
going to willingly send my fighters to cover someone else and leave myself
vulnerable.

We're not talking about a clan war, and helping your team. We're talking about
helping a bunch of other greedy players who aren't looking to help you, who are
simply out to get exp... I find as I've been TW'ing lately, I could careless about ALL
welcome game balance, heck put more people on the other team, more ships to
torp. I get my damage in and move on to the next game.

Personally, I think it'd best if you vector fighters to avoid friendly flak. If you are
patrolling around friendly ships, lower your fighters attitude to avoid golden angle
attacks, as well as luring other fighters into friendly AAW. I personally also find that
it is easier to intercept bombers after they've finished by cutting off their retreat.
This won't prevent them from an bomb run, but you can make CV1 run out of
bombers if done
right.

OMFG nice idea. Thanks SWpig. I do agree when you said that CV is for fun only, but
it's not fun to lose experts.

RNM, you nub non-team player. I hope the BB TK j00 wh3n you j0in gamez :p

Seriously, if you think you are suppose to grind in an CV, you are seriously mistaken. CV
is something to play for fun, not for exp or game gain if you can help it.

Of course, over zealous AA boats will AA an dog fight, but there is nothing much you can
do about that if you want to provide cover. I guess if interception is no so effective,
just switch to bombing enemy CV and offensive fighter sweeps over them team.

Ups sorry... didn't notice you were from Seattle... in Vancouver there are so few CVs-BBs
they all call themselves by name :D I guess it doesn't happen in Seattle as well.

"Maybe you should ask if people want fighter cover. Sometimes BBs are just too
scared of
enemy bombers to pay attention to what planes are over them, and tend to fire at
everything in the sky."
Well, I do. For example
"X2354, you want fighter cover?"
"yes pls"
"k im sending a sqn"
*boom 4 planes died to friendly aa*
"well ahhaa u cant ctrl bombersssss!!!!"

But sometimes people say "cv give fighter" and that gets an immediate response of
"NO. I dont give fighter to noobs who shoot them down"
That's the point scotty: I only give Fighter cover to people that are worth it and who I
can trust (like insane >.>)

There are very few people I give Fighter cover for:

Other CV's if they are in a spot of bother
Greenglade
Whitesuit
anyone in CC (my clan)

and thats about it, I don't mind losing a few fighters to AAA when it's a genuine
mistake. However what really gets on my nerves are those noob AA people who
aim at the bombers rather than in front of them. Hence they miss the bombers by
miles and shoot down my chasing fighters. It fairly clear that if you shoot at a
moving target it would have left the spot you aimed at by the time you shells had
reached it.

Cheers

Scotty

Maybe you should ask if people want fighter cover. Sometimes BBs are just too scared of
enemy bombers to pay attention to what planes are over them, and tend to fire at
everything in the sky.
