Wow. I thought I was the only one that knew about pennants... I named my Repulse, Hood,
and Revenge with their pennants, and on the Revenge issue, my Revenge was called HMS Royal
Oak. I briefly used the name for my county too.

As a matter of fact, I'd like it if more people used historical names. I've always tried
to stick to historical British names; some favourites being Conquerer and Indefatigable.

kind of sad, really. All the old battleship names that any 1930s Briton would have
recognised are no longer used, or used sparingly. Nelson and Rodney, the Revenge's and
Renown, axed after the war.

I still thikn they should call the two CVF's Hood and Nelson...

Well the intention was ricwin666 was that actual ship names and pennants that are
used in game.
However if you would like i can make a second, more comprehesive shiplist that
covers all classes of ships that were commissioned and used by RN and her
commonwealth Navies....

Good Post, alot of detail, but a few missing

Off the top of my head, i can think of a few you missed;

Hms Archeron (O+P Class DD AA Ship)

The entire Sloop class CA. Sub under County. They were similar to Corvette class
Escort, but quite slow. The Black Swan class was slightly faster and more heavily
armoured. They were commisioned as Carrier escorts. There were 8 of the Black
Swan CLass:
--These 4 served in the Royal Indian Navy under RN control
HMIS Godavari (U 52)
HMIS Jumna (U 21)
HMIS Narbada (U 40)
HMIS Sutlej (U 95)
--These 4 serverd in the RN
HMS Black Swan (L 57 / U 57)
HMS Erne (U 03)
HMS Flamingo (L 18 / U 18)
HMS Ibis (U 99) (lost 10 Nov, 1942)

These are the Sloop Class cruisers which served in the RN:
24 (1)
Banff (10)
Bittern (3)
Black Swan (4)
Bridgewater (2)
Egret (3)
Falmouth (4)
Folkestone (4)
Grimsby (8)
Black Swan / Modified Black Swan (32)
Shoreham (4)

All of the Modified Black Swan Class from the RN:
HMS Actaeon (U 07)
HMS Alacrity (U 60)
HMS Amethyst (U 16)
HMS Chanticleer (U 05)
HMS Crane (U 23)
HMS Cygnet (U 38)
HMS Hart (U 58)
HMS Hind (U 39)
HMS Kite (U 87) (lost 21 Aug, 1944)
HMS Lapwing (U 62) (lost 20 Mar, 1945)
HMS Lark (U 11) (lost 17 Feb, 1945)
HMS Magpie (U 82)
HMS Mermaid (U 30)
HMS Modeste (U 42)
HMS Nereide (U 64)
HMS Nonsuch (U 54)
HMS Nymphe (U 84)
HMS Opossum (U 33)
HMS Partridge
HMS Peacock (U 96)
HMS Pheasant (U 49)
HMS Redpole (U 69)
HMS Snipe (U 20)
HMS Sparrow (U 71)
HMS Starling (U 66)
HMS Waterhen (U 05)
HMS Whimbrel (U 29)
HMS Wild Goose (U 45)
HMS Woodcock (U 90)
HMS Woodpecker (U 08) (lost 27 Feb, 1944)
HMS Wren (ii) (U 28)
HMS Wryneck (ii) (U 31)

Theres quite a lot. Those are just Black Swan & Modifed Black Swan.

The Lion Class BB was a bit odd really. The HMS Lion was laid daown and was near
half way through construction before it was axed. The others in the Lion CLass
were not started.

ive noticed that theswitcher.
a few pre war ships like BBs actually have a year number to differentiate from
previous classes. so. does that make the pennant number on the previous name
valid for the next generation ship of the line?

Just a note on pennant numbers,
The letter at the begining of the pennant number is the flag superior, this letter on
some ships was changed during the life of the vessel due to war losses etc, as in
the case of the carrier Hermes which was changed from I.95 to D.95 in 1940, so as
you can see this can get quite complicated, and as a result just leaving the numbers
maybe sufficient.
Also some ships for some reason do not have a letter prefix that i can find, i will see
if i can find out why these seem to be missing this, they seem to be mainly capital
ships BB,CV, CA and CL. will get back to you when i have more information.

"1: Why were the QE class BBs the ones they "modernized" between the two World Wars when
the REVENGE class BBs were the newer ones at that time?"

The Revenge class was newer but not more modern. The QE class was designed to run on oil
at a time when there wasn't a 100% guarantee of supply. In case the oil was cut off the
Revenge class was designed as a cheaper QE running on coal in case oil was cut off. So
between the wars the QE class ships were chosen for refit since they were faster and
better protected. The Revenge class was converted to run on oil though.

--=Q+R Class DD=--
HMS Oribi (G66).

Also wondering if Fiji Class CL would fit into the Southampton/Edinburgh Line?
the ships i believe were a natural development of the like...
any thoughts? anyone?
