  • NF Startup Crash Solution (use Micro$oft Security Essentials)

This applies to Win XP SP3 (I haven't had the chance to test it in either Vista or 7)

After some tests with FREE AV software (Avast!, Avira, AVG, and Micro$oft Security Essentials),
it is the Micro$oft title the one that offers the best results (only one startup crash in 10 tries).

  • Download Micro$oft Security Essentials (Download MSE)
  • Uninstall your AV software,
  • Install MSE
  • Enjoy.

It seems the problem with the NF startup crash (black screen and freeze at start of the game) is
due to the interaction between our beloved HackShit (HS) and some avntivirus software.

I used to use AVAST! AV and had to restart the game around 3 or 4 times (and up to a maximum
of 16 times once) in order to get an instance running; now I'm a happy NF player again.

Feedback on systems other than XP SP3 is welcome.

Well I got the same problem and I'm using MSE. Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit.
Though you did manage to lower your crash rate, you actually didn't fix it. As you said yourself, still crashing in 1 out of 10. Never the less, thanks. But as it isn't the AV most people have trouble with, it will only solve the issue for those who didn't try it already when others suggested it.
