Not myself, but we've used them for search and rescue in the past and I've always been impressed with their work and their level of professionalism (around this area, at least).

Not a member and as a firefighter/medic my dept as never used them(or even considered, never heard any talk about them). I'm pretty sure there is 1 or 2 near by but i don't fully understand what the CAP is other then they have small planes they can do searches with, which are useless around here with as much wood areas we have unless they have a helicopter and if they did we would probably still not use them. We only ever use the med choppers if we need eyes in the sky.

I'm not bashing this service, just speaking on what i know of them (or in my case what little i know about them).

I was thinking about joining, but I really, REALLY don't want to have to get short hair.

Try short spiky hair? its what i do, its smooth all round but theres spikes in the front, and it looks good compared to long shaggy hair.

And you can always go to your local squadron, participate a little, see if you like what you see, then join or not :P

Well, where I live, I'm known by my hair. I guarantee people wouldn't recognize me if I got a haircut. That, and I look like absolute crap with short hair.

There is 2 CGAUX units around 100-120 miles from where i live. They don't do much other then have meetings once a month or something. However considering their is no oceans and only lakes and rivers here I guess there is not a lot they can do?

Yeah, my float is mostly vets & retirees with the average age being above 60. I don't do to much. The floatilia mostly does boat safety/ boat inspections and community projects. We pull some young people (like me) from the local university who are interested in stuff like that.
