China launches its first aircraft carrier.

But are carriers still worth it in modern warfare or are they going the way of battleships (capital ships)
due to modern missile tecnology? Some believe so.

Why do the chinese need an aircraft carrier? War.

India gota a CV so china should as well just to counter them.
Also i think carriers will be useful till we start building star cruisers and do orbital bombardment (a long time) and modern missile technology will be countered by antimissile technologies.

Also why China would go to war with anyone now? No need they will buy whatever they want.

It seems more than obvious that weapons are for war, but why a CV?

Power projection and statement of intent. Nothing more.

It sounds like the most reasonable answer.

In my opinion, in the view of recent weapon technology, a carrier is a big basket with all you eggs in it. I don't see any *power of deterrence* in CVs anymore, or any real practical solution to air force deployment, for that matter.

It seems like the Chinese are saying: *We can too*.

Does anyone of the large Chinese NF player-base shed any insight about this?

War, I don't think so China may have largest number of soldiers in the world,
but they don't have enough military technology to go to War against U.S.

Not yet, but that is what they are building up to. They own a good chunk of the US anyway but if they concentrate on the right techs they could rival the US in a few years. Also, their CV is already outdated. Chinas main focus is their anti-cv subs.

Let me correct you, they have the largest number of ACTIVE DUTY PERSONNEL. In all reality Vietnam and Russia have more military if you count paramilitaries and reserve force, Russia has roughly 21 million total troops and Vietnam roughly 5.5 million.

I believe Iran has a total of about 10 million and many countries such as Switzerland and Isreal technically have a force made up of most of their adult populations.
