Off-Topic would be anything not directly related to NF... but still normal Forum Rules apply.

That means the "talk about other games" also apply here.

Actually to better assist the mods, I am posting a copy of the current forum rules here. I am not attempting to resume moderator duties which I have stepped down from previously, however, the mods are often busy and I think they would appreciate the help. As promised, the current forum rules:

FORUM RULES
=============================================================
=============================================================
=============================================================

Welcome to the official Navyfield forums. This is a place for people to interact with
their fellow gamers and to foster a friendly gaming community.

The following forum rules and guidelines are designed to keep this an enjoyable
environment for everyone. Violations of these rules and guidelines may result in your
removal from this message board.

Threads and posts can be removed or edited without notice. If you blatantly break the
rules, even if it is the first offense, your forum account may be permanently suspended.
The following are the Rules and Regulations of the Navyfield forums.

1. Abuse and disrespectful behaviour are not tolerated.
The purpose of the forum is to provide a friendly environment for interaction between
Navyfield players. Occasionally, conflicts may arise when people voice opinions and
thoughts. Be courteous when disagreeing with others. Debating an opinion is appropriate,
however getting personal over a topic is not allowed. "Getting personal" can be construed
as flaming, trolling, harassing, profanity, abusive language or abbreviations, personal
attacks, racial, religious, ethnic, sexual slurs, or similar behaviour/language. This
applies to both "public" threads and private messages.

- Flaming is defined as posts which are designed to personally berate or insult another,
and is not permitted.
- No forms of trolling are permitted. Trolling is defined as deliberately posting
derogatory, inflammatory comments/threads in order to bait other users into responding.
Accusing someone of being a troll is also a form of trolling.
- All posts referring to message board censorship will be removed. All message board
content may be removed at the discretion of TeamNF and FMs. These posts will be removed
and the poster warned. Any further posts will be removed, and the poster will be banned
from the message boards. Also, working around a ban to continue posting is also prohibited
and may incur an extension of a current ban.
- Attacks against forum moderators are not permitted. If you disagree with an action taken
by a moderator, you can send your complaint via PM to a moderator where it will be reviewed.
- No personal attacks are permitted, which include, but are not limited to, insulting a
poster directly. Example: "You are stupid, you suck, and you should [censored]."
The above are examples of behaviour that is not tolerated on the forums. Pursuing any of
them will result in a warning. If the behaviour persists, further consequences may be
enacted against your account in our sole discretion.

2. Don? abuse new posters.
New players are welcome to post their questions here. Do not harass them for asking
questions or treat them with disrespect for not knowing an answer. Instead please welcome
them to our boards and help them find the information they are looking for.

3. Private communication between Customer Support, TeamNF members, Forum Moderators and
forum users is not to be made public on these forums or any other public forums. You are
not permitted to publicize any private correspondence (including support tickets, private
message correspondence, in game private chat, etc.) received from any of the
aforementioned without permission. As such, warnings and bans are not to be discussed on
the forum. Such matters shall remain private between the SDE/TeamNF and the user.
Questions or comments concerning warnings and bans will be conveyed through private
messaging or support tickets. Likewise, discussions regarding moderator actions are not
permitted on the forum. If you have questions regarding a post or thread that has been
removed or subject to other moderation, feel free to contact a moderator in private to
discuss it.

4. Non-Constructive posts are prohibited.
Below is a list of examples of non-constructive posts. As a rule, non-constructive posting
is not permitted.

- Spam is considered to be repetitive posting of the same topic or text or nonsensical
posts that have no substance and are often designed to annoy other forum users.
- Cross posting is not permitted. As a courtesy to others before beginning a new thread,
please look to see if an active thread on that topic has already been established using
the Search (you must link this to your forums/search page) feature. If so, place your
comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forum
needlessly and many good ideas may be lost. Use the Search link to keep discussions about
one topic to one thread only.
- Negative feedback can be very useful, provided that it is presented in a civil, factual
manner. Tell us what you don't like and why and how you feel it could be improved. Posts
that are insulting and rude may be deleted, no matter how valid the ideas behind them may be.
- A rant is a post which is long-winded, redundant and filled with angry, non-constructive
comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community
and helpful in the development of the game, but rants are disruptive and incite flaming
and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise, clear manner and avoid going off on
rambling tangents.
- "NERF X! BUFF Y!" threads will be removed. They can turn into threads with little or no
constructive information.
- "Goodbye" threads will be moderated on a case-by-case basis according to
constructiveness and tone. Such threads that offer only negative commentary and ensue
product-bashing will be removed for similar reasons as "rant" threads.
- No thread necromancy. Necro-posting is responding to an old discussion thread and is a
form of thread 'bumping' If you wish to discuss a considerably older topic, create a new
post and link to the older discussion.
- False obituary threads are considered highly improper, and knowingly posting false news
of a player? real-life death may result in a ban of your forum posting privileges.
- Threads that make threats or use other combative language are not allowed.
- Demands for answers from SDE/TeamNF/FM Team are not permitted, however we may often
address some questions and concerns with an official topic. In the event of legitimate
emergencies, or other unprecedented scenarios, we will endeavour to provide comments, even
if it is only to state that there is no officially available information. However, this
may not always be possible.
- Call-out threads that target specific SDE/TeamNF/FM Team will be binned immediately
without notice. If you want an answer from an SDE/TeamNF/FM Team, please send either a
support ticket or a PM.
- Threads that single out a player or fleet for ridicule or accuse someone or some fleet
of actions in-game will be removed without notice. Repeatedly targeting another person or
fleet is considered ongoing harassment and is a severe violation of the forum rules. In-game
violations need to be reported via the appropriate channels, such as support ticket.
Public posts of such accusations will be construed as attempts to cause antagonism for its
own sake.
- Posts that accuse other players or groups of players of hacking, cheating, exploiting

To further assist TNF, please note the fallowing highlighted rule which specifically addresses the recently removed threads regarding to other games:

8. YOU MAY NOT POST ADVERTISEMENTS.
Advertising on these forums is not allowed, specifically posts that advertise a
transaction for real money or any post that discusses an action prohibited by the User
Agreement. This also includes referral websites and linking to websites where you are
credited for referrals. ADVERTISING FOR OTHER GAMES IS ALSO PROHIBITED. ALL ADVERTISING POSTS OF THIS NATURE WILL BE REMOVED WITHOUT NOTIFICATION. However, advertising for fleets
will be allowed in the off-topic section of the forums.

So.. if I said something like: "navyfield was a better game than battlestations: Pacific", Would that be considered advertisement based on the forum rules simply because I have mentioned another games name?

If so, someone has severe OCD or is scared of other games not made by SDE since ALOT of other MMORPG games ALLOW players to discuss OTHER games in OFF TOPIC areas of the MMORPGs forums.

dingy
yuno mentioned blizzard in a recent monthly update once saying how he was waiting for diablo3

the debate would have to be what constitutes as "advertising"

i see nothing wrong with saying how OUR game is better than THEIR game

infact it gives more recognition to NF and shows how this game is better than some others

BY THE WAY.... how do you think i found NF? through someone mentioning it on a certain game forum

if i was yuno i would like to see what people find interest in... to help improve my game to keep them here

Nightcrept
It's been the rule for almost as long as NF has been around.

On another note though. Wow.....what forum warrior got a hold of the rules section...lol.

Edit: Went and read the rules for the 1st time in a few yrs or so and may I say it has grown. But I do like all the new legal stuff. Congrats to whoever did all the research.

Well, I don't make the rules, I just resurrect them and put them up for every one to see that wants to. I also draw attention to the rules that are pertinent to the discussion at hand. As I said, I am no longer even tasked with enforcing said rules, as I am no longer TNF. However, I do encourage that every one carefully abide by said rules to avoid the 'ban hammer' or 'ban stick'.

Re-read the rule, there is no mention of prohibiting players from even mentioning the names of other games and look up the definition of 'advertising'. It's definition is not what forum moderators seem to think it is here and the fact forum moderators are told to delete any thread or post related to a different game does not say much for navyfield, its parent company or potential sequels as to me all it says is the moderators/developer/the company are scared that ANY game could pull their community away, when all that this sort of thing can potentially do is push people away.

Removing threads / posts saying: '' will kill navyfield! hahahaha!!'' is fair enough. However the way in which the rules are applied here is much like the Republicans in the US preventing the public from speaking about other political parties, or the Conservatives in the UK from talking about other political parties... Freedom of speech is allowed on all other gaming sites when it comes to competing games, why not here?

If we could talk about other games, expect a Battlefield and FIFA thread.
