  • Auto aim for BB?

Noob here, but I can not get the hang of manual aiming.  I can set it all up then if I turn my ship I get all confused as to how to reset them all.
Is it possible to use auto aim forever? If you just can not get the hang of it.
Has anyone or do they use auto aim on top tier ships?

Its been mentioned once prior by a previous poster. Whenever I come back to this game after a long break I jump right into a AA ship. usually an CL or a CA and go play a support role in GB's for awhile until I relearn and work the rust off of my fingers while using manual aiming.

If you are physically able CL/CA and above should be played with manual to gain the additional benefits and get the most out of your ship. Jump back in a CA/CL for awhile while learning. Once you get used to the 3-6 second reload time, the BB reload time will seem easy giving you plenty of time to make adjustments between shots.

That having been said, it is just a game.  And a game should be played for enjoyment.

Regards,

Nik

It is possible to use auto aim forever, but it's not effective (and NF is all about maximum efficiency, eh?). Manual isn't that hard to learn, but it does take some time to get used to. I think of manual control like an analog clock, where my front guns are one hand of the clock and my rear guns are one hand of the clock and the bow of my ship is 12 o' clock

Q key => Spin both hands of the clock counter clock wise
E key => Spin both hands of the clock clock wise
D key => Spin both hands of the clock towards 3 o 'clock
A key => Spin both hands of the clock towards 9 o 'clock

After a while it becomes second nature and it's not that confusing to do. But if it's too difficult or you can't do it because of medical reasons then don't fret too much. Auto FCS doesn't give as much as an accuracy penality as it used to so it's at least viable.

Hey Ace,

The biggest thing that I found helped players learn manual aiming, was to start using manual early on. If you can learn it before you get to your CA you should be able to play a BB with it very easily.

Greetings and a Happy Holidays for everyone reading this!

Maybe you just got a BB1 in time for the Winter Event. Or maybe you equipped Manual FCS and have no idea how to use it in a Great Battle. Well, this is what I call the "1/2 benchmark method". This is for absolute beginners and over time will help you learn angles and estimate. There are many other methods and since everyone learns differently this may not work for you. But it worked for me.

Tip #1: Try to keep your target at maximum range, that way you'll only have to stick to the high angle of your gun. Medium range angles are the most difficult to learn at first. Use missions and training rooms to practice your medium and low angles. Make sure to cross your aiming lines and lead the target. This will also factor into your estimation.
----
Step 1: Find the angle that gives you the maximum range (example: 45).
Step 2: Find out which half the target angle lies in (example: < 22.5 or > 22.5).
Step 3: If its close to half (~ 22.5), estimate , fire, correct, fire...
Step 4: If its not close to half, find out which quarter the target lies in (45-33, 33-22, 22-11, 11-0)
Step 5: Get the angle of the nearest quarter, estimate, fire, correct, fire...

Tip #2: Practice, practice, practice. Use L guns and HE Light or AP to maximize range. If you see lots of zeroes switch to AP and check to make sure you're not using AA.
----
Alternative method:
Step 1: Find out how much distance one degree is for your gun.
Step 2: Estimate how many degrees from a benchmark (45, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 0) the target is away from, fire, correct. If the target is closing in rapidly, hold your fire and let the target sail into the correct angle.
----
Best method:
Learn angles from one-on-one training sessions with someone in the fleet who is available. Then practice using Advanced BB Mission or a skirmish with fleet members.

You will likely not be happy with Auto once you get into a bigger ship.  I hurt my left hand and thought I'd use Auto and a Nelson while it healed.  Accuracy was terrible so I thought I'd go with the 14" quads and blockshot accuracy would improve surely!

It doesn't. I would have the tightest little group of misses you've ever seen!  I'm sure I drowned some sailors from all the splash but solid hits were rare indeed.

Reminds me of the time I broke the first two fingers on my left hand working up firewood for the winter. Tried "auto" for a couple of games and was sorely dissapointed. Ended up playing CV's and TWing in the Kita for a few week's :)

Manual is difficult to learn but pays off!

Everything is better with manual... including DB and TB.

lots of help here ..because we have all had to learn...and theres always more to learn..just keep working around the problems.... dont get stuck lose lose lose in one mode....use front guns only for a while ..less to get right ..or use max range only and move the ship more...use the practice room as mentioned..sit behind the front line and pick off strays rather than duel.. but dont use L guns  in close up battles in blitz, because range adjustment is harder than N or D guns

Read up on trainworld site, lots of good information ty for the link.

The analog clock idea is helping my brain a lot, neat tip thanks.

the "1/2 benchmark method" thanks working on that now

I was scared to even post this because I figured I would get hammered with insults.
Glad to see a helping community, impressive Thanks All
