I think i might buy something used with a P4, replace the PSU and put in a decent graphics card, maybe GT 440 or GTX 460.

Well seeing as this game has been talked about for a VERY long time..nice that it will be coming out. I dont mind having to start all over again. So at least Ill have two new Navy games to play. This one and the one being brought out by that other company :)

After doing some preformance tests with the NF2 client, a P4 won't cut it, had some pretty long load times (2-3 minutes for a battle) and a low FPS in game.

I would say however, you dont need a very great graphics card, on my main PC, I use an XFX HD6770 1GB (Uses DDR5, $110, Plays BF3 max'd)

Using 5 gigs'o'ram
and an AMD quad core 3.1gHZ,

I got 60+ FPS with 1080p and max settings.

All I gotta say is: DAMN that looks better than NF.

So blood, pick up a dell inspiron 570, upgrade the PSU, add HD6770, boom, headshot, you can play NF2 and that evil game that shall not be named being created by insaine copy-cat Russian people.

I'm thinking about getting a laptop that has an AMD A8-3520 processor (quad core) that runs at 1.6 ghz and up to 2.4 ghz when overclocked. It comes with an ATI Radeon 6620G graphics card with 512 mb ded. memory. It also has 6 gigs of RAM, but I'm upgrading it up to 14 or 16, since it is upgradeable that much. It is DirectX 11 capable. Is this a good rig for NF2?

That will play it yes, but to avoid low FPS and long load times, I'd suggest something with a little bit more processing power, and a card with 1GB of VRAM.
However, your RAM is fine, I played the Japanese alpha with little problems with 5GB'o'ram.

And to please the troll crowds:  I am very impressed with SDE, the game has very few serious bugs.

It has a few glitches here and there, but that is to be expected in an Alpha stage game.

buffer size doesnt matter that much, there are some 512 cards out there that will out-do a 1Gb card.. its the clock speed that matters most.

I am aware of this, the clock speed is a huge factor in card preformance, but in NF2's case, after doing a few tests with an overclocked AMD 512mb card (With good cooling), and a modern mid-range AMD 1gb card un-overclocked, the Clock speed was a few MHz apart, (with the Modern card with about 20 MHz more).

The 1gb gave me about 24 more FPS on average than the 512mb, this leads me to think that the clock speed doesn't matter AS MUCH on NF2.

This is likely due to NF2's 3d engine, that has visuals that a 256mb card can do with little trouble, but lag on a 512 on medium settings.
(Yes NF2 has graphics settings, and can run at 1080p)

So that's why I am reccomending a 1gb card, by all means get one with a high clock speed, one with a lower clock speed isnt't a deal-breaker.

Hope this makes at least a little bit of sense! ;P
Explaining this stuff is hard at age 14! :D

PS: Another reason I am reccomending the Modern 1gb cards is the DDR5 memory they use, I have an Nvidia 1gb card with DDR3 I used to test vs my AMD with 1gb of DDR5.

Game used: Crysis:Warhead
Max'd settings  (and we all know the phrase "Can it play Crysis")

DDR3 - 22 FPS average - 14 High action average (Heavy combat) - 34 Max FPS-
DDR5 - 35 FPS Average - 26 High action average - 74 Max FPS -
(Clock speed it similar when my AMD is un-OC'd)

And even at lowest settings, It looks better than NF, so I guess SDE should just scrap the whole thing because the graphics aren't bleeding edge, especially because everyone that owns a PC owns a $3000 gaming rig.

*Sarcasm Off* for all the stupid people that think I'm serious.

(to bloodsky, the video on top is, the others are 1080p, not so low quality)
