When is the right time to BVE my crew? I have already boosted them but I'm wondering if
"Vetting and Experting" them makes sense when I'm still in my lvl 30's.

So, when and why?

yah but as a bb i dont think your going to be having half full crews to make your ship
lighter. Cause it doesn't make that big of a diff with such high gun weights. BVEing is
up to you, but if you dont you get an excuse for getting pwned :P

To reach the cap earlier? To reach the cap with less recruits/a lighter sailor?

Do you need to BVE to reach max true ability with 11/11 gunners?

I mean, I have 80 vets on both from rolling and 2 vet packs (from Thanksgiving event). I
also have 200+ experts and nearly 200 recruits. Do I need to boost to reach the cap?
Also, if I don't need to boost to reach the cap, whats the point of boosting?

Right. See, this is why he's a forum mod, he can read for content. =)

Let's say you have a sailor with 100 experts and 30 vets. Let's ignore level and
simplify the forumla a little bit and say he has an ability of 220. (100 + (4 x 30))

If you spend 3 $US on a boost, you're pretty much operating as if you had 120
experts and 36 vets, which is a simplified ability of 264. (120 + (4 x 36))

But if you spend that same 3 $US on 100 experts and 2 vet conversions instead,
your simplified ability is 380. (180 + (4 x 50))

Boosts do indeed get better as your sailor gets better, but this example is just to
show that adding vets to a new sailor is a quicker gain of ability than adding a
boost. Eventually you'll want BOTH, but do the V and E first.

Add to this is the fact that you can gain a lot of "free" Experts in your 30's, 40's, and
even 50's by AA'ing, it would make no sense to spend a bunch of money on Experts
at that point to load them up completely.

And...you learn a very useful skill that you will need later on...

When I boosted my gunners they were well ahead of my crew, about 10 lvls. So I BVE my
gunners at around lvl 40ish while the rest of my crew were around 30s. My gunners got decent
spread at CL-CA range. As for support crew, I only put experts on them till they hit their
40s as well, once they hit their 50s when I BV my support crew. As for my BO, I BVE him
early to around lvl 35, just because I couldn't spot my shells land at max range.

Storm didn't mean that a boost by itself is useless, he made the connection with the
number of vets and experts on the sailor. Remember that the crew count is the second
factor in determining your crew's abilities, you multiply it by the displayed ability to get
true ability. If you boost you crew, it doesn't matter jack squat if it has next to no vets
and experts, a small number multiplied by 1.2 is still a small number. So, if you boost,
you really need a larger number of vets and experts to actually benefit the most from it.

Stormvanger, when you boost your sailors you don't waste your money. What a boost does it
multiply the base with 1,2. Experts and vets increase the true ability, which in turn is
calculated of the base.

It does not matter when you boost your crew, you will allways get the same result.
Boosting early makes one able to benifit form it earlier.
