The medic isn't cancelled out any more ( and was only cancelled out on IJN or UK
CV's).
It was fixed a year or even longer ago.

Actually a seaman will cancel out a medic

my KM cv crew lineup: 8 elite FP, 3 +12 FP stat seaman, 1 medic
my IJN CV crew lineup: 8 FP, 1 seaman 1 rep 1 engy 1 medic
my UK cv crew lineup: 8 elite FP, 3 elite FP turned into seaman, medic
my US CV crew lineup: 8 +12 FP, 3 elite FP turned into seaman, medic

go back to the independence and lvl my medic.

Seaman and Medics DO NOT cancel themself out.

Seaman are very effective ESPECIALLY if your pilots are at the lower levels.
Make sure you have at least a good base POT +14 or +15 for Medic.
Make sure you have at least +11 FP preferrably +12 ability on your seaman. If you
want to have GREAT seaman for cv...use elite FP and class as Seaman.
My CV6 is 6 FP, 2 DB, Medic, 2 Seaman.

Also Seaman Stack despite what most of the noobs that dont test will tell you. SDE
has also confirmed on numerous occaisions that seaman stack. I have not tested
nor heard about medics stacking so I cannot verify that.

Seaman are not usless and they give a pretty decent boost if they have the right stats.
(aka Fighter and Bomber and Restore Stats)

Also I've never noticed them to cancel each other out. Then again my sailors love to bug out.

And yes, they cancel each other out.

Seamen? Dont use them, the boost they give is very small, you should rather put an
engy or one more pilot on.
