  • Yamato's speed

Okay bare with me on this one. I searched but all I found on it was people talking about
how Iowa was faster in real life or some crap along those lines. Or old topics of how
yamato sucks due to PBB's and crap.

So my question is this.

I have 4 engineers, 2 are 12+, 2 are 11+, all are 7 levels above my BO
Each has 6-7 rookies, full experts, and 120 vets, or 110 vets.

By time my bo hits 90, and my engineers are pushing towards 97, whats my chances of
hitting 40 knots OH with standard layout?

Reason I ask is I want this ship already hitting between 38-40 OH when I first get it, and
I think I did a good job of leveling my engineers up past my BO just for this task, and I
plan on doing it some more before the end goal.

Any other Yamato drivers out there know on this subject?

Yes, that is the formula. I then calculated the needed true ability to reach a certain
fixed speed.

You need more true ability the more engies you put on your ship to reach the same speed.
The reason, as you mentioned is the root. You could say from a different perspective more
engies get an ability deduction.

The OHspeed is a predetermined constant, I dont need to round down or up. Now, has anyone
different numbers?

Adapting info from Adalbert's guides, the overspeed formula for a Yammy with the BB
Power Plant V Heavy, without any engineers at all would be:

YammyOH Speed
= Base Speed * (1 + (1.2 * 0.28)) = Base * 1.34
where 1.2 is from the Engine and the 0.28 is from the Yammy Hull

If you add in engys they add to this speed by the following formula:

YammyOH Speed = Yammy Base Speed * (1 + (0.28 * 1.2 + Engy Bonus))

EngyB .onus = (Add up the true Engine ability for all Engies onboard in support slots) /
(18,000,000 * sqrt(total number of Engies))

True Engine Ability for a sailor for those of you too lazy to look up the formula in
Adalbert's guide is Engine Ability * (4*Vets+Experts) * (Total Sailors / Max Sailors)

You can see that you get diminishing returns (at least for speed) for each added
Engy (because you divide by the square root of the number of Engies) so it is
possible that the addition of that unboosted level 65 Engy to the other 3 Level 100
BVE engies could actually cost you a knot or two in OH speed (but not time, OH time
stacks linearly for each engy).

n.b. always round down for decimals..if the formula says that the YammyOH Speed
should be 37.8234 knots that will round down to 37.

4 Elite ENG lvl88 max vets, when I take 1 off speed goes down to 39.

I had the impression that the ability reduction is already incorporated in the
OverheatRatio formula.
Could you then calculate it please?

@above

engies dont work like that, for every engie you have, you get a % deduction of
ablity...

@above above regarding nagato spread

with my lv 120 gunners, i have alot better spread with nagato then B65...

i think its the smaller shell splash giving you the feeling of worse spread.

This thread got me curious, so I played with some formulas given in the ability guide.
I wanted to know the needed true ability to speedcap the Yamato. These are my results,
feel free to correct me.

38knots:

3 Eng= 7.785.000

4 Eng= 9.000.000

5 Eng= 10.062.275

39knots:

3 Eng= 9.030.600

4 Eng=10.440.000

5 Eng=11.672.275

40knots:

3 Engineers= 10.276.200

4 Engineers= 11.880.000

5 Engineers= 13.246.200

Edit:
True Ability= (4xVets + Experts) x Displayed Ability. This is for one engie, then just add up.

at least B65's spread is better than Naggy's. Im currently running the Naggy with a very
bad spread while its getting ok in the B65.
Lvl 88 gunner not fully bve.

When it's time, try the nagato, it's playstyle is similar to the yamato actually.

and B65 isnt much of an option, the spread SUCKS. (even with lv 120 gunners)

yes atm angus I'm doing the extra lvl for my gunners in the fuso (nag is still bleh for
me..) so hopefully i can get them close to 75~80 without going crazy in fuso.. 22 lvls
in one ship is really ridiculous.. Also is b65 an option? or is the level too low once my
engis are close to 80?

Thanks,

It'll take....A LONG TIME with your engies..(untill you ve them)

if you can, level those engies on a lower level ship, like fuso/nagato untill their lv 80,
so they can have more xp, while your BO gets less.

btw, I found a old screenshot when I first got my yamato...before BB34AA patch...

yea...elite bve engies with 90 vets at lv 83-85(or somthing like that)...
1 2 3 4
