  • I need to know, what are the streinghts and weaknesses of the North Carolina

I'm un-able to afford to keep switching ships around and such, and I want to stick
with my North Carolina. I need someone's advice about what a North Carolina
should/shouldn't do so I can become a better player before I get Iowa. I have done
the search thing and only found ALOT of heated arguements over the North Carolina
and the South Dakota, while there are acouple of very good bit in them they aren't
what I am looking for. So please, I need some help with this question adn I thank
anyone who can answer it for me

It's worth noting that the NoCar was buffed since this thread first ended...

i found that the NC is really a good BB3 ... what i try to do is hang in the middle of
the map... wait for the BB3+ to get engaged then sneak in from behind them and
fire until either they are dead or they turn there attentian to me ... then i run for the
hills...

Helms pretty much sums it up. Like most US boats, the NC gets better with age.
Unfortunately, it doesn't get much better with age..

About the only time my NC sees any action is in an old-school Night Battle where I load
her down with heavy ammo and 1-shot stuff.

Other then that, my NC doesn't get much use. It's infinitely better then it was a few
years back, when it was one of the many 21/27 US ships, but meh. At least back then you
could put Iowa Ns on it.

SoDak:
+ Good hitting power
+ Fast
+ Pretty good AA
= Small-ish target for BB guns, but easy to bomb
- Bad spread until your gunners are about 83 or 84
- Fragile
- BB2 range

NoCar
+ Good hitting power
+ Good AA (better than SoDak)
- Bad spread until your gunners are about 83 or 84
- Not as fast as SoDak
- Bigger than SoDak, and easy to bomb
- Fragile
- BB2 range

As you can see, the SoDak and the NoCar are fairly similar, but the SoDak enjoys
advantages that the NoCar does not. Pretty much the only area where NoCar is better off is
in terms of AA. But that's it.

I don't know where Celtic is coming from with "avoid rushers." Both of these ships are
fairly good at dealing with rushers, because of the 40 degree max angle of the guns, and
their relatively good speed. That, and SoDak/NoCar have the best AP in the game.
Armorwhored, rushing Nelsons and PoWs should be your best food as a NoCar/SoDak driver.
Just let them commit, then turn away and pound them. If they're smart, they'll give up the
chase. If they're stupid, they'll follow and you'll kill them easily.

I did a thread titled something like "My experience with the North Carolina" or similar.
It basically echos what CelticLord says.

The other weakness he did not mention is the random landing zone for the spread. It's not
the spread itself that's so bad after a few levels. It's the fact you don't know where
the spread will land.

Try this test with the NorCar. At the start of a battle, keep your speed at 0 and raise
the guns to max elevation. Shoot the guns when no one is crossing you. If you do this
every battle for 10 battles or so, here is what you will see: while standing still the
spread will sometimes land in front of the guidelines, sometimes on the guidelines and
sometimes behind the guidelines. Remember you are not moving so there's no real
explanation for this. The same thing will happen while shooting in a battle. It makes
aiming accurately very difficult.

NorCar can compete but treat it more like a Colorado or Tenn45 than a BB3. Pick your
spots and be ready to run at the first hint of anything BB3+ shooting at you.

Recently got my NorCal a few weeks ago..

Pros:
Good Firepower
Speed is Decent
Range is Decent

Cons:
LOW DP (FOR A BB3!)
Obvious glass jaw...

Try to keep out of the line of fire pretty much...
i tend to sneak in when there are no scouts hit and then run back

**Edit**
Try to stay away from rushers(Especially Nelsons,Lions, PoWs, Etc.)
