IJN AA Guide ~A Guide to Clear Skies~
V1
So I saw a post asking for a new AA post and I figured I뭗 try and compile some
things I뭭e learned while playing NF. This is by no means a complete guide as many
players have their own preferences. But it뭩 a rough draft to help people find their
way. Also anyone who wants to add PM me to add your thoughts

The guide is divided into parts:
Intro: For what you need to have
Equipment: Discussing the main weapons you뭠l be using
Ships: What you뭠l need to drive in order to be a potent AA ship
Tips: Basic tactics and the know-how that you뭠l need to succeed and survive

**Please refrain from posting any information without checking it out, flaming,
random useless spam or any other forum no-nos.

Thanks,

Thanks for all of the good comments and feedback guys ^^

Basically, on paper you can class your gunners on time and have access to AA gunners
as you move up.

Practically though, I would not recommend doing this (I know from experience.. I
classed both my Gunners on time -.-'.. though if you are patient and bve your gunners
they are ok at Yamato level)

Basically, unless you're using an AA boat (ie: The Mogami, Myoko, Asama, Tsukikei, etc)
you really don't need to worry about classing your DP gunners until lvl 92 (By which time
you should be using your Yamato) lvl 65 (B65) if you spend money.

Good lord, so the IJN doesn't actually -get- AA gunners until level 65 when you class
them up to DP gunners?

I agree with everything Krauts said. On the Mogami question there is no definitive
answer.

The CL is a better support ship because:
1) better gun angles
2) faster speed (much faster)(except the CA with 3 bb-level bve engies does 48 in
OH)
3) the ability to carry a sonar if you really want to help that bb you are escorting

downside:
a) 1 less support slot
b) lower level ship so lower level of xp and credits per mission. Given this is IJN and
you waited until level 72 or 80 or so to class your armament sailor as dp gunner,
level matters with IJN AA boat
c) lower dp and probably lower sd and repair since missing support slot..but in an aa
boat if you are getting shot at the game is probably lost by then anyway

So if I care about xp, credits and levelling I play the CA, for fun (or in a tournament) I
play the CL.

On the question of when to level your DP gunner, check out xHomicide's sailor
calculator tool. The short answer is "wait as long as you can". The long answer is
"but if you don't all is not lost and you will gain experience using aa sooner".

What is the top set-up for Yamato and SY Still 4.7s? does anyone use 6.1s?

What is the best set-up for Mogami CA?
What is the best set-up for Mogami CL?

Who prefers Mogami CA or CL?

I am assuming Mogami AA Platforms are the closest we can get to Moltke
to earn EXPERTS. Is this true?

I am assuming I have correctly leveled AA Gunners 11/12 and converted
at Level 87.

For Yamato and Super Yamato setups, it is really a matter of preferance. Obviously
the mid-ship T-slots should use 4.7's as they still outrange all other AA guns.

The fore and aft gunslots are where some differ. If you prefer the added punch the
6.1 offers go ahead and take it. The downside is a slower reload, which again some
prefer as it ripple fires their AA guns. Second problem is lower velocity, meaning 4.7s
will have reached max range while 6.1s are still travelling, again a matter of
preference.
Going all around 4.7s is a good setup as well as your shots will always reach the
target at the same time with the same reload. However you miss the ripple fire
effect as well as the added punch.

Barring Tslot differences, the setups for Mogami CL/CA is pretty much the same.
Granted the guns can change ie: you can use 4.7s on the Rs, 6.1s, or 3'' if u prefer.
As some point out, Hedgehogs on the Tslots work well, but I don't like using that as
my gunners add unnecessary weight on the CL version.

Just as my opinion, I would recommend the Mogami CL version. Granted it's got less
DP, it does carry alot of speed in it, (can't remember exact speeds will edit..high
40's/mid 50s OH tho) the other good factor is it's cruising speed is a lot faster then
the CA version 34 cruise compared to 25...
Also, the turnrate is better then the CL meaning dodging is slightly easier to dodge.
The final good factor to me is it's only 550k, compared to losing out on 250k
everytime i need to make room in my shipyard.

This is untrue, if you look in my guide you'll see that there are other serious AA
platforms out there as well, Mogami is just the more versatile. Other platforms
include Tsukikei (slimmer, faster then Mogami with same R slots, minus 6.1), Asama
(good AA coverage, some spread issues) and, though it is outshined by the Mogami
series, the Myoko.

If you check the IJN stickies, there is a spread chart I believe that helps indicate
growth rate of IJN Chief DP Gunners who are 'properly' classed. But to answer the
question, yes you did class your DP gunners just fine.

Cheers, and happy 2010,
Krauts08

experts: I powerlevelled (back when you could) a Kita BO for the most part in an AAW
Mog (and for another part of that time in an AAW Emerald) and when he got to level 52
and I classed him to BO I found he had 130 experts.

This is a wonderful post, however there seems to be disagreements
relating to recent patches. I have a few questions for 2010.

What is the top set-up for Yamato and SY Still 4.7s? does anyone use 6.1s?

What is the best set-up for Mogami CA?
What is the best set-up for Mogami CL?
