Thanks, CapitalC and Jdashn.

I too DLed from Fileplanet and have been unable to connect. Have tried everything you suggested, Jdashn, but to no avail. At least DEP is set now and Page size is running at 1.6 Gb.

Will try DLing from main site and reinstall tomorrow.

Okay, I have a few ideas that may help.
1. Don't use a wireless conection, this may help alot.
2. make sure you have removed all copies of the game from your computer, redownload from this site (making sure to have all download managers turned off), and reinstall.
3. Turn off DEP (instructions below)
4. Turn off windows firewall? (instructions below)
5. Make sure your virus scanner doesnt have a firewall associated with it, if so follow the instructions in the help section of that program for disabling, allowing or forwarding of a program, or ports (TCP ports 8001, 16671)

Do you use WindowsXP with ServicePack2?

If you do, try exlucding NF from the DataExecutionPrevention:

A) Go to the Control Panel

B) Double-click on the SYSTEM icon.

C) Click on the ADVANCED tab.

D) Click on the SETTINGS button in the PERFORMANCE section.

E) Click on the DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION tab.

F) Check the checkbox in front of "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select"

G) Click ADD

H) Navigate to your NF directory and add the NavyFIELD.exe

Try redownloading NF and turing off the SP2 firewall and any other firewall.

Try turning off the SP2 firewall

A) Click the Start button

B) Click the Control Panel icon

The Control Panel window appears

C) Double-click the Security Center icon

The Windows Security Center window appears

D) Click the Windows Firewall listing

The Windows Firewall window appears

E) Click the General tab

F) Click to select the Off option

G) Click the OK button

Instructions by obst.

I hope this helps.

not really very technically apt when it comes to ports etc...
plz explain how to do it, ill give it a go...

i wonder if it has something to do with the download, as i got it from fileplanet not the opffical site. I saw this coz sometimes when i start up the game it has a few nice spalsh screens b4 one of the makers logos comes up.. (i dont press any buttons to cancel screens its just quite random)
anyway has uninstalled again, and re-downloading from this site, so ill report back

don't know what ports navyfield uses, but it is possible that you might need the port forwarded to your IP? Kind of hard to tell since it is a very general problem (doublecheck you dont have any software blocking navyfield)

all i can suggest is maybe you should reinstall NF and if that doesn't work try opening NF as a administrator and ensure that it downloads any patches. otherwise it could be to do with you connection. ensure you are connected properly or if you have a firewall (softwar or hardware firewall) that it is not blocking it.
