I used Cleve for a long time... 8" duals are great guns but 6" trips have their place too. To and no you should not necessarily HAVE to drive the brook to use the 6" trips. I know it has 1 extra R slot over the cleve, but cleve has advantages over the brook that still makes it effective with 6" trips. An example of this is its AA suite, which I have used to great effect on my Cleve. 8" duals are useful against CLs and CAs, but your loosing 3 barrels in the process. Most Cleveland skippers are not skilled enough with their shots, nor are their gunners skilled enough, to land all the 8" shells on a rushing DD. If you are going to dispatch a lot of DD, use either the brook with 6" trips or the cleve, cause unless you have very good gunners, only about 2 - 3 DD will be necessary to rip your cleve to shreds. This should leave a bad taste in the mouth of anyone who just came from brook. I mean, it is unfeasible to use 8" duals in fights against DD... I know from experience. Unless your going to be in a CL/CA room... that's a whole different story.
