I have a kaga premod cv with 180 sd and was wondering about how much sd I should have by
cv6 level, because the sd doesn't really seem to be doing much besides making me burn :\

When I say I expect it thats only because certain things are expected out of me as a level
120 all fighter cv5 too. I should rephrase that to if they want to see they will kill that
sub ASAP. :P The nice thing about a bulge whored Cv with a decent amount of SD is that
with skilled dodging even if I take a few torps its going to take more then 4 salvos to
kill me. Especially if I have some distance between still.

I think we've all made our points. Time for silliness ^^

"once that thing is surfaced I expect an immediate response from my team. "

What game are you playing again??? :p

Yeah, i've seen that happen but in the end the blame still falls on the CV's teamates for
letting it through. If a CV is doing its job and providing cover, helping scout, or being
EFFECT with its bombers and sticking relativly close to its teamates there is NO reason
why ANY enemy ship should EVER get close to it. I suppose I can give a pass for a
submerged sub, but once that thing is surfaced I expect an immediate response from my team.

by no means am I making this a case for using guns on cv. BUT

some Ubernoob exploiting the game to save up air by parking on a near dead cv would never
happen if the cv had gunnery ;)

Meh, generaly I stay close to the battle line unless theres a big push while i'm busy with
my planes. I never carry guns on my cvs anymore and If I'm getting attacked and my BBs
dont help me either they dont appreciate fighters scouting for them and blinding the enemy
or they are all dead. If its the latter case the battle is already lost anyway so who
cares if its a little dd or SS that kills me. Even if a DD does attack me while the game
is winnable its not going to be able to kill me very quickly if I have close to 900 SD. I
would rather just focus on my plane and hope my team realizes what it would mean to their
chances of winning if they let me die.

In this, we might be experiencing a difference in play style. I play fairly close to the
battle line while in cv. This could then subject me to more SS attack/letting me defend
my BB line from SS.

imo, other defenses are vital.

"To make your comment worse (stretching the point), I could say "dont use bulge...
most games SS and other torps don't hit you in cv, so you will want all the speed
you can= no bulge."

I find it rather convenient to have bulge, so the first 5 tbs that hit you dont cripple
you... If you run bulgeless and with gunners (low sd) you will not be able to take
much damage thereby easily being cripples/killed by opposin cvs. Also there will be
subs that manage to sneak up on you,(perhaps not often, but it will hapopen) and
even bulgeless you wont be able to outrun it unless you have engineers onboard.
So ill just have to dissagree. use bulge.

"I think some offensive gunnery and HH's are absolutely essential in CV. I cant tell
you how many games I have lost due to less SD, but I can guarantee you having
HH's and main guns has won me more games than I can remember."

Its the oposite for me, i can tell how many games i have won thx to running guns or
HH on my CV: 0... With high SD, an FF or DD that shoots at you will take minutes to
even get through your sd, thereby he wont realy be a threat. and you got bombers,
just launch 2x2 and bomb him. Also i can count how many FFs/DDs that has reached
me and attacked me in the last month (without our battleline already falling) on one
hand.

"Also if you are using gunners, take them off and replace them with supports. It
might be very fun blasting those pesky DDs to smithereens, but its not very often
you get to use them."

I have to disagree...
fyi: I run HH's on the rear turrets of my cv and anti-small ship weapons on the front.
This is with reference to cv5 and PCV.

To make your comment worse (stretching the point), I could say "dont use bulge... most
games SS and other torps don't hit you in cv, so you will want all the speed you can= no
bulge."

far too often do I find myself saving my BB's with my HH's from enemy subs... far too
often have I been stuck alone fighting off DD's and FF's with my main gunnery...

I think some offensive gunnery and HH's are absolutely essential in CV. I cant tell you
how many games I have lost due to less SD, but I can guarantee you having HH's and main
guns has won me more games than I can remember.

i would put a high level restore because my restore level 103 gives 300 sd it works
sometimes when i'm in the center i would tb south early so i can scare em and let
them think theres a kita there so they would run back and than u will have to put up
fighters in midd so they can't see u. db north so they think theres a cv there and
than the enemy cv will think ur north run south than ur clear for any attacks. lol u
can do it eradicator.
