  • are my gunners a hopeless case?

    09. 21. 2009 11:54

CptHaddock
i currently got i set of aa- gunners lvld from armnt to aa-gunners @ lvl 45 ish ...
they are currently lv 63 ( just the first aa-class and they are +12) use them for lvling
crew in my emmy , mostly! iguess i could have waited and lvl them later like u
would do wit japs , but i wanted to try the pom-poms ... can these gunners become
good or are they waste of space and time

and now im lvling a new Bo for Hood line... and since i wana grind some York
(im pretty sure i wont get the blockshot ) in Blitz i cant use my lv 74 gunners oc! .
so i took my neut 11/11 lv 33 ( for ff-x fun) and lvld them uk gunners

Will these gunners become usable and reach the acc/rld caps later! since most
gunners sem to hit the cap around lvl 70ish OR are they just noob ship only use,
some say u should make rldgunners like US for aa

havent seen many high lvl UK AA ships anyways soo mabye caring about uk aa is
waste of time!

Reload Capped Pom Poms take ages to stop firing >.<

The answer to your question is already provided by his screenshot. ;)

while I applaud your screen shot, I feel its the exception rather than the rule. Are pom
pom's light enough to keep you running 39 on L2?

AA gunners classed on time can still be good if you use pompoms because of their
ridiculous reload. Then it all comes down to knowing how to aim them and knowing the angles.

I've posted this before in general discussion but it's a good example of what can happen
if you know what you're doing with pompoms...

Scout sniping is indeed where it's at as far as most BB antiaircraft fire is concerned.
And of all the UK A version guns, only the premium duals/quads have the range
needed to reliably pick off scouts. The 5.25 RP10 A guns come up a bit short in that
category, and the pompoms are really only good at scraping off fighters/bombers
circling overhead. (But at least the pompoms are tiny, light, and had a recent range
buff.)

UK has very good AA.

Its just very limited in its efectiveness. It is very good to snipe scouts, only usable to
fend of fighters and really bad to protect yourself against bombers.

It might be a bit heavy, but you wont lose more than 1 kn base on most ships.

And most UK BBs seem to have at most 4 useable AA slots per side.

I personally don't feel that UK needs amazing AA; Its a nation defined weakness. The only
thing I would ever use it for is shooting down scouts, I would never expect to rape
everything like KM AA. I like the fact that I can run AA without a loss of speed on
certain setups. Speed is a big part of my playstyle.

The US AA patch on the other hand...

I am glad I levelled my UK AA gunners to hit the reload cap, but I am not going to bother
levelling them to QV; due to the 115 requirement. Too much work for too little gain.

"Actually, that isn't true. The A class versions to the 5.25 RP10's are superior weight
wise, and do a fine job. "

Yea... but they have identical reload speed to the RP10D, and have less range as compared
to the RP10D... not to mention at-lvl the D variant will be TOTALLY superior to the A
variant... only at lvl 100+ are they even comparable.

Go with the NLD and reload gunners. I have used both at-lvl and at 115+ and I MUCH prefer
the rp10D guns.

in terms of saving weight... being that only QV has more than 4 aa slots, its not really
enough weight to matter much. maybe the difference is 1 sub torp apart? Not enough to
matter in my eyes. Its just yet more BS from the last ONF about making US and UK aa
gunners useful. Any schmuck that believed them is SOL now... (goes to harbor and sighs at
his US lvl 116 aa gunners that have yet to hit the 3"70A reload cap even though they were
11 base initially)

"There are only 2 sets of guns that the UK uses AA gunners for... pompoms, and the
premium AA guns that come with the Dunkie. And for those, class your AA gunners
as LATE as possible. If you waited unil 45 to class, then your AA gunners are far
from useless, they're just not as uber as you could conceivably get them.

For everything else, use the 5.25 RP10's with normal gunners. =) "
