  • Is it wrong to enjoy short range gunfighting?

I guess this might be seen as a troll topic, but I am honest here. My gunners aren't that
great. they're average, but not great. Is it wrong, or FAIL somehow, to enjoy playing at
lower ranges, where the accuracy of your aiming has more of an affect than the luck of
your spread? I realize that as my gunners level, my spread will do better longer range, I
just always seem to get better attack, have more fun, and be more effective with shorter
range weapons. I will probably be blamed for playing blitz, and having that game type
ruin me, but I find I like the more frentic action to the sudden death GB artillery duels.

It is not wrong to enjoy short range fighting.

Feel no shame at NF. Do what is fun.

Just know that many ships will not reach their full potential by not using their range
(i.e. most KM ships).

Fighting another high level BB at ~15-20* is actually really fun and a great break from
the standard range fighting.

When I was in Sirius and Edinburgh, I enjoyed short range fighting, because those ships
were meant to fight that way. Rushing in while constantly lowering your angles until 0s
popped off your belt was great fun... in DD/CL games. CL/CA games were completely
different and already required some of the tactics you need for BB driving, but thanks to
Blitz those stages of learning are now extinct.

Short range fighting is where u can weed out the boys from the men. Most ppl can use stay
within their first 5-10 degrees reasonably well, but after that, misses occur. If u are
able, when situation calls for this, able to rush in aganst a ship that u know u can beat,
it can help devestate them.
When to rush a ship:
1.When hes damaged so that the fighting is going be short as possible, and your guarenteed
to land the shot, and that he will pose a threat to u if he resp up
2. If he has less firepower, and worse spread then u. Even if he hits u, it will not hurt
as much. This only works though if u got good reps and speed.
3. If hes blind
4. If he is busy with another ship
5. When your fighting a POW or any other quad ship and the player cant aim. The quads take
extra skills to use because of the very specific angles. If u can dodge and hit him with
decent spread while he keeps splashing beside u, u will have him.

All of these are skill based and all depend on the situation.

"The limits on sighting distance and restrictions on accuracy in the mode make it more
possible to sneak up close... assuming you can find your target."

They abandoned those horrible accuracy nerfs quite some time ago. For very obvious reasons
(NB=CV farmfest).

If you enjoy this sort of thing and you're driving a battleship over level 60, the best
game mode for surviving long enough to get to these ranges is Night Battle. The
limits on sighting distance and restrictions on accuracy in the mode make it more
possible to sneak up close... assuming you can find your target.

Anyway, you might try hosting a few of these games to see if you like it. They take
longer to fill than blitz or GB do, so be patient. =)
