  • French gun scaling?

I know this might be an aesthetic complaint but does anyone else think that the
French guns are waaaay too tiny? Even the dual 5.46" guns look about the same
size as most nations 3 or 4" guns.

The 6" dual sets suffer from being tiny too. Added to the fact that certain portions of
hull are waaaay too big it makes many French ships look weird.

Atleast TBNF will have some more on their plates. Can they fix the gunsprites?

"SO! To resize the guns, all you need to do is steps #4 and 5. Which is pretty damned
simple, trust me. Change the resolution settings from "40x50" to "90x110" and restart the
batch process."

Sadly it would not work to just increase the resolution and image size... you would also
have to adjust the placement of the guns ingame... if you just increase the imagesize the
guns would have an offset to the lower right...
The only ones you could possibly change that are SDE... I don't even know if TNF has tools
that might do the trick...
Thats the reason why TBNF cannot change the size of some things like for many animations
for example... even though it would be damn cool...

I think they made them in scale to the amount of damage they do.

Umm, guys, unless I'm mistaken, the way they're making those sprites is the following:

1. Make a 3D model of the gun in a modelling program (3D Studio Max, Cinema 4D, Blender, etc)
2. Texture the 3D model.
3. Define camera positions according to desired sprite images (defining the rotation of
the guns and of the turrets). This can be done using paths with very VERY minor tweaking.
4. Render a batch of images.
5. Incorporate the images in a sprite file.

SO! To resize the guns, all you need to do is steps #4 and 5. Which is pretty damned
simple, trust me. Change the resolution settings from "40x50" to "90x110" and restart the
batch process.

The question is whether we can get the people who made the models to re-render them with a
bigger image. Hell I'd do it if someone sent me the models for the guns. I know how to,
just don't have the time to spend modeling the guns from scratch.

So, TNF/SDE, if you want bigger sprites, get in touch with me. I'll be happy to help.

I did my US 16" for Helges NoCar all by hand... inlcuding the barrels... because I used a
program without macros...

if you guys saw how many images it would have taken me to do the 5.25 RP10s including the
guns WITHOUT a macro, you guys would also have given up

trust me, its not worth it, only for the guns that dont fit on any ship would be a good idea

but if they fit at least one, then dont bother, WAY too much work

So go ahead please and upload them in the TBNF forums...

"Atleast TBNF will have some more on their plates. Can they fix the gunsprites? "

Yes, we could... but thats a lot of work... every gun has 36 turret images (i think) and
depending on the available height angles several hundred barrel images (which would also
need to be adjusted)... not to mention that the quality would suffer greatly when
enlarging the images... so its not just simply enlarging them but you would also have to
tune them to make them look beautiful instead of but ugly...

The BB1 guns are smaller than UK 8" duals...
