  • Level 49 x2 3.9" heavy guns.

Right. So I was checking my gun list. and noticed these guns.

First I was thinking "wtf? 3.9" guns at this level that are heavy?"

Then I tested them out. Used the La Fantasque with 5 of these guns; Simply, amazing.

The range on them is something of a beauty for a destroyer, and they reload and damage
only work more to compliment these monster guns.

The max angle is 30, and they can also use AA.

Anyways, back to what I wanted to know.

What is the golden angle of these monsters for AA?

I just got these, used them for a few days, and have come to the conclusion that
they are completely and utterly useless as AA guns.

Why?

Check out the explosion height when using the AA shells at angle 30.

Compare it to the explosion height of other proper AA guns at their GA.

You will note that the 3.9" is significantly lower.

What does this mean? It means that, metaphorically, the 3.9" "can't get it up". Its
max angle is insufficient to reach the GA. Angle 30 only allows you to hit planes at a
very, very narrow range where the shell is at the very height of its apogee. At any
other time during the shell's travel, it will not reach the altitude of regular flying
height.

Of course, it works fine for lower-flying aircraft, but that's besides the point.

ever since I tried their lower level counterparts I compared them to 3/70s, almost
identical in every way but thge lower levelled ones have less range.

as for aa, I have found the lvl 20 AA guns are superior BECAUSE of the higher angles
they can shoot, although it takes several hits to take down even a scout the rate of
fire and *drool* beyond IJN aa range should counter this.

was with deso in a game earlier he said it was 30 (after missin a scout for tons of time
tryin to figure it out) maybe he did some more test idk, go bother him :)

I kind of think that a 30 max angle AA gun is useless tough...plant the scout inside the
GA coverage...cant do shit.

I have yet to test france myself tough. Waitin for it to be tweaked and I dont see the
point of rushing to 90 since I know i'll lack the time for the twin sailor event.

Meat annoyed the shit out of me in his DD with those gun tough, so I suppose their
playstyle could be compared to a rld capped USN 3"/70 mk23 gunship.

Yes, all the low angle guns are bad as AA.
If I will use 3,9 it will be to keep fatter crew on Mogador, I am doing much higher
attacks with 5,46.

max angle is 30? Please count my comment as an unexperienced post (I havent play
MN yet).

But...I seriously think max angle 30 is not meant for AA...and Golden Angle is
29...that means once planes gets past your golden angle, you cant do anything.
That'd be a bad for a situation where you are trying to stay alive when bombers are
above ya.

But I do need to check these guns out. I'm still having your comments(desolate's) in
mind.

Used on Mogador and these are now the way to level my Sub BO through to actual Sub!

You do not need high damage when it hits so hard and so accurate compared to other guns in
the range.

Not impressed with damage. They do like 150 max with heavy shells.
