  • Question about The Infamous Atlanta and its Remodels.

I'm a user of beta NF but I still would like to ask a question. It has been so long since
i have gone through the ship tree for USN; I mean years, and I have forgotten some things
and patches have changed others. So i would like to ask my more up-to-date fellow players
something. I intend to get an NortHampton so should I get an Atlanta or any of its
remodels or stay with DDX. If so at what lvl and with what guns should i switch, and if
not, what guns should i use on my DDX?

if you have spare creds (like its not your first line) and 70k isnt much for you, the
oakland handles the 5/54 L better with more ammo. But if you are tight on cred, the remod
isnt worth it.

Correctly used, the atlanta easily dispatch CA and BB1 that didnt pay enough attention to
you if you are using HAWing.

Noobly used with 6" you'll be a lesser brooklyn pwnin DDs, and you will die at any good CL
hand.

learn HAWing with APC and a backbind of HE in case a DD rushes you. Funz funz funz.

The atlanta has more firepower than the DDX and it depends on how you play it.The
atlanta is a bit smaller than normal cls but if you want a small powerfull ship go with
the DDX but if you want a powerfull broad side go with the Atlanta.

Atlanta isn't better than ddx? There are a few things that make it better. extra
guns! That is an immediate plus. Exp gain for a cl has a higher cap, +2 for Atlanta.
Two more slots to level sailors increasing SD, +3 for Atlanta. More usable displacement
for fatter crews, +4. And finally, the ability to carry the 5" 54L guns that should keep
any dd/cl 1 at bay. Only draw back is the firing arcs, but they can be dealt with, which
teaches you how to position your ship to maximize broadside exposure when firing.
Those 6" and 7" guns are not best suited for an Atlanta with all the more valuable roles
it should be fulfilling. But those are just my opinions.

Hold up guys, let someone in here that actually had to pay 350k for an atlanta because
they were permenantly out of stock...

I personally had great fun with the atlanta, particularly once i remoded to oakland, but
like all ships in this game its got a role and it doesnt do particularly well when playing
outside that role. It makes a decent DD killer with all those guns, is good at aa, and
can hunt subs, but its not a line of battle ship, and due to poor acs cant really take on
other CL1s (unless you can high angle...HA=pwnsauce). As for getting a NH, dont. Im not
saying dont go up that line, im just saying its wasted credits, the NH is practically
useless at level with BVE crew, and by the time your spread gets good enough to actually
fight with effectively, youll be ready for a portland or NO anyways. AA with the atlanta
is your best bet for leveling ASSUMING you can AA. Even the worthless noobs in blitz can
pwn an at-level NH with ease, and in GB you'll be blown out of the water long before
getting in range to MAYBE land one shell with your god-awful spread.

As for atlanta/remod arms, use 5/38 duals for AA and 5/54s for HA. Mount sonar and
hedgehogs on the T slots for some ASW. If going into blitz to hunt DDs, use the dual 6"
or single 7" and engage them at your max range so they cant shoot back (should get you
some decent attack before a ca or bb1 pwns you) In reality the atlanta isnt all that much
better than the DDX though, so if you can stick the grind the DDX is undeniably the best
DD in the game (i won mao's dd cup tourny with it).

A note: Belt armor whoring in blitz is epidemic...you will encounter ALOT of retards that
cant figure out why they bounce 0s and plenty of pricks thinking they're leet because
nobody can sink them. Bring along a bind of AP, dominate their b***h a***s, and laugh as
they accuse you of hacking/cheating.

Go Atlanta; If you're from Beta, then teh Atlanta series are not as bad anymore. In fact,
they have better flexibility firepower wise over teh DDX; The turret arcs are still
terrible though.

Considering the credit crisis (in which most people play GB2, but GB2 gives little
credit and point reward) it is better not to remodel for now.

The remodels both boast powerful guns, and are excellent HA war machines. From
observation, it seems the Juneau II is better as close combat and Oakland with
HAing or AAing.

LKs guide pretty much covers it. He let out using the 3" Mark 70 guns for AA. They are
great for knocking down bombers and scouts that are in range. Those broadsides are
great for doing that.

As for the NH line, plan on lvl 50 or 55 until you are effective with any of those ships.
The Portland can play similar to a Balti using the Mark 14L guns. Thew New Orleans can
be an effective speed whore turning 50 or 51 knots and should be able to block shoot
by lvl 55. So you might spend a lot of time in the Atlanta to be effective in the
Northampton. Check LKs guide on the NH vs Brooklyn for more in depth info.

Well after playing through the US lines it seems that the Hampton/Orleans/Portland are all
the same basic ship with varying gun space so I dont see how one ranks above the other
