  • York still pleasantly overpowered after all these years

It's too bad that most new players breeze through all of the "little ships." I am
having a blast in my second time to start a York crew. Crew level 50-58.

York - next to Moltke the most fun i've had in a CA.

York owns any blitz room. With accurate fire and fast reload nothing can touch it, if played
well.

Moltke not so good as York in Blits (slow reload) but great in GB.

I love the York.

At level, the CAs match up roughly the same. UK/US trade range for hitting power and
higher accuracy; whereas IJN/KM trade accuracy/hitting power for range. For the players
who will use range to its max potential, then KM will consistently win against IJN, US,
UK. It's a guarantee whether the crew is at level or 120.

And for the one person who's confused why level 120 crews are mentioned: it is because
with a level 120 crew, the gunner ability caps are reached and it makes a rather definite
assessment of the CA/guns.

Sigh - why are some talking about lvl 120 crews in CA's?

But you have to admit, nowadays a Dland or Ppro at 120 should be able to beat any other
non-prem CA hands down. While they are better CA killers than the IJN CA's, I would argue
that the IJN are much better all-around killers (or at least, used to be :/).

Not to say that IJN CA's couldn't be improved, spread especially.

DLand and PPro1 are much better than any of the IJN CAs. The difference is especially
noticeable with 120 crew.

Not sure why IJN CA's are knocked on... To me they are only challenged by KM, against
which they have much more firepower.

On topic, York was without a doubt my favourite CA - excellent combination of firepower
and range, wrapped up in a tiny package. You could play the line effectively, dropping
6-7k hits at max range and easily kill any US CA (non prem...), but you can also work well
in the mid-low range because of your firepower. Not many other ships can kill rushing
DD's and CL's like a york.

Big downfall imo is the small displacement, as compared to say a county. Iirc I was
almost above max by the time I left blitz, and certainly can't use it now without removing
the rear gun.

I found that the HA Surrey was good when you couldnt see where the shels where landing
because then you learnt where the stuff was landing, ad then when you hit something you
could remember then hit angle. I got 80k in a Surrey without a high lvl BO and that was
not blockshotting (it was running and gunning - KM cant hit a chased HA UK player. So if
you are outranged, just run. They will follow and then they shall die in a storm of 58-55
degree 800+ deck shots)
Anyone achieved HA blockshot in Blitz yet? Im trying
;p

CA's all come into their own once you get to a decent level of BO. You need to be able to
see where your shot falls. Before then, using the long range is makes life hard.
Particularly in a HA county...

Did it twice before GB, GB2, Blitz, boosting and premium everything.

You can't say it is overpowered if you see all the weaknesses york has besides its
good firepower but a little lack of range as compared to IJN and KM at lvl CAs. Over
all it is fun to play york and I have really very good crew for my york, I enjoy it a lot
most of time but there are players with MYOKO, PE, Deutschland, New Orleans and
County who beat me one on one in blitzes. I got lvl 55 gunners 12/11 boosted on
my york and a good support like 11/11s and 11/10.
Some times I find myself in situations where a good county player outranges me
keeps hitting me and running away. I feel york is very weak and slow where you
have to chase a CA. Similar is the case against other good range CAs. I was only
beaten once by a BALTI out of my four fights one vs one with balties in whole blitz
experience.
So yes YORK is fun in skilled hands it has nice fire power, but strenght of a CL, lack
of armor space, slow as compared to other CAs, and lack of AA weaponery.

Not to sound conceited, but a Pensa would tear through any York. And quite a few good
Balt or NO players could do it as well. York is a really fragile ship. It takes some
care to play.
