is horespower the only thing that matters when selecting an engine and the usgage
percentage which i assume means power to the proppellers vs base HP? also are
there any benefits on bb2/bb3 as far as using say a CV engine? this is an area of
the game i have litteraly never looke into thx for any responses

Yes, SoDak uses CV Engine IV. Any other engine makes it go slow.

Unless things changed since I last played USN a while back, then the SoDak actually
uses CV IV (if I recall correctly, should be the 165,000 SHP) engines which turn out to be
the highest SHP engines mountable for the SoDak's powerplant space.

Just always go with the highest HP engine available.

Actually, no.
Horsepower is the power given, moar is better.
The OH percentage is important, as it give base OH, unless you have good
engineers.
The OH time is important unless you have uber engineers, and still then, it plays a
factor.
The weight.
