  • Replace Air Time with Battery Life

Submerged submarine endurance should be based off of battery life instead of air
time. In addition, battery life should be based off of submerged speed. The faster a
sub goes while submerged, the faster the battery drains.

This could mean that a sub could traverse the entire map submerged, but would
need ten minutes or more to do it. On the other hand, a sub could go 20 knots
underwater but would only stay under for two minutes.

(I posted this in the Submarine Suggestions but I'm sure it will get lost in there.)

please see Wingmann's response on page 5 and see what you think.

Well that can be taken 2 ways.

It could either be linear (a straight line)
or
exponential (a curved line)

Obviously you would want to at LEAST make it linear, yet exponential would influence
subs to go slower to go farther, and therefore less whining from going fast.

And make battery usage exponentially grow as speed increases. Subs would then be
able to go slow but far or fast but near. Otherwise, rec.

I still believe this would be a great fix so I'm going to necro it.

@scmoo,

i actually agree with you on that one. Although you completely misunderstood the intent
of his suggestion. I agree that it shouldn't end because only a sub is left on one team,
but what he actually intended to stop was the five minute wait for the battle to end
because a sub on the other side of the map can't catch the last cv and wont tell the cv
where it is to come end it.

I really wish you would stop being so aggressive in your replies. You don't need to be
rude to people or knock them so hard. This is a public forum for public use. Civilized
society demands that we use some respect and courtesy when we talk in public. I can
understand though if you haven't graduated middle school yet. That's forgivable. :)

(yes, the last sentence is hypocritical. Irony was the point there. Calm down...)

From 1 page ago...

"However I should suggest that ships can get sonar buoys to drop from scouts to help a
pesky sub not wanting to surface after all ships are dead.

OR at when all surface ships are dead the game automatically ends if there's only subs
left."
Hmm, so if a sub is stalking the enemy flag, "playing its role" and using a "strategy" the
game just ends on them? You just don't like the idea of being able to lose when you think
you have it won. How about once you kill the flag the game ends? that sound more fair? Get
rid of GB2 entirely? like that more? My god they put the flag into the game to make it
more exciting, but you people seem to only complain.

What are you smoking? Have you even read through this entire thread?

you would need to come to the surface to recharge your batteries. You do know
that subs had to come to at least snorkel depth to run their diesels right? You do
know that they couldn't run their diesels when they submerged right? You do know
at least a little about WWII diesel submarines right?

And why are you talking about modern technology? I know all about AIP, believe
me. But this game is about WWII, not modern subs!

Try to keep up with me, okay?

ok what about the fact if the battery recharged off the engine and u never needed
air due to current technology then um u would need to implement a fuel problem?
since u know NONE OF THE SHIPS IN THIS GAME RUN OUT OF FUEL... so basically
what ur saying in the start is i wanna stay underwater and make the game work for
me ... no sorry not happening

i do not favor this improvement over any other, yet if all suggestions are set aside in
favor of still another more urgent fix, will nothing ever happen?
