Hey, I recently started using DCs due to the fact that 90% of my deaths were happening due
to Submarines.

I have run into a problem though. For some reason, I cannot get the depth charges to
launch out away from my ship, even a little. To describe it differently, they drop off the
side right next to my ship and cause a big enough boom that they actually deal significant
damage to me as well.

A search of tips and tactics did not bring up any good results, and nether NF-Guides nor
Trainworld have any sort of faq or guide on the matter.

So my question is how do I use them "properly?" I am pretty sure you are not supposed to
kill yourself with them, so if it is even something as simple as I am using too slow a
ship I would like to know.

edit: Currently I am using them on a K-berg

I have tried the 0.2 belt that halves torp damage, but I heard somewhere that it doesnt
stop splash damage which is what DC do.

I suggest finding a ship with T slots near the back like FF as stated but also Omaha,
Emerald, etc. If you notice, Kberg has a huge "tail" which will get hit by DC as you sail
ahead of the DC.

The Z99 and kberg have essentially the same T slot capabilities since you can only
launch 2 at a time and the launchers reload faster than you can swing your guidelines
around to the other side of the kberg, while the Z99 has DD sonar and is much faster.

FF-Y is good, you don't even need to overheat to escape the blast.
This is good, because if you overheat, you'll lose contact with the sub.

Not sure if I'm just doing it wrong, but the FF-Y seems to turn very poorly, this makes it
difficult to swing around torps and get close...

Don`t forget putting 0.2 or 0.3 belt on your ship.

And I prefer Z99 for DCer than Kberg.

You could OH as fast as you can while mounting a lil bulge OR you could use the FF-
Y/21(remod of FF-2). They have rearward launching slots which are perfect for DCs and
they have a fast base speed so you won't have to run into the splash.

That's the way it works. Drop it and run as far as you can or be hit by your own DC, that
why only FF or fast DD have DC on. The big ships are too slow and too clumsy to use DC,
instead they use HH.

And there is nothig wrong with DC usage

Alrighty. I just wanted to make sure that was the problem and not something stupid that I
was missing about the DC launcher itself.

put a little bulge to nullify it. The huge splash radius will nail you unless your going
full speed.
