  • FCS on Torpedo Whores

I use SS1 or SS2 on Torpedo only ships to save weight.
The BO has Zero Weight.

If I was using DD or CL FCS which is heavier, and gives longer guide lines
that I do not need, WITHOUT a Sonarman onboard, will I see Enemy Subs
out further or clearer?

Thanks

The sonar spotting distance of a ship is based on that ship's FCS SPACE not what
type of FCS you have. Then that base spotting distance is increased as a function of
the true sonar ability of a sonar sailor (if onboard). DD and FF have auto sonar but
the small FCS space means that FF are almost useless at sub spotting.

To have a real chance of spotting subs outside of torping range, you need a dd with
big FCS (like Akitsuki-Kai) or a CL and a sonar operator.

So if you are worried about subs, FCS type is irrelevant.

If you are playing TW in blitz then FCS type is important because in the new Hobbit
map world there are zillions of torps whizzing around and if you take the SS FCS to
get speed by trading off ship and torp spotting distance sometimes you might sail
into a sea of torps as you fffictory ahead of your team. That being said, with Sima
speed is everything and you should be able to avoid torps even with short warning.
With Kita, speed is everything, same advice. Take the SS FCS.

I use SS FCS on my Kita as well, it saves a hundred tons of dead weight.

I don't think the distance at which you see subs is tied to the FCS. I'm pretty sure it's
a fixed 3-hash-marks or ability of sonar man, whichever is greater.
