  • Skipping Rookie pilots to Fighter/Bomber

What would be better for sailors intended to be Fighters and Bombers? Do you class them to
rookie pilots at level 25, then to level 40/45 for Fighter and Bomber, or leave them as
Special force pilots and class them to Fighter/Bomber once they reach the level? I have
been reading obst's guides and Adalbert's ability guide and I seem to lean towards leaving
them as Special Forces until level 40 and 45. I already have a dedicated rookie pilot for
my gunships.

If I skip rookie pilot :

I lose out on the aircraft stat, but Adalbert's guide says its not an activated ability.
Will this be ever fixed?
I level faster, since Special forces gain 140% exp, but pilots gain only 100%
I can put them on T slots and mount AA/DC/HH/torps if needed. Rookie pilots cant operate
guns/torps/DCs/HHs
The -2 for AAW, Repair and Restore stats get applied much later, allowing the displayed
ability for said stats to grow further
Crew growth is both 5 for Special Forces and Rookie pilots, so no effect on my True Ability

The only thing good if I class to Rookie first is that I can drop mines with scouts, but I
don't plan on buying mines.

It seems this is the right choice, but I am asking for opinions, in case I missed
something that will screw my pilots later.

Thanks for the inputs. I'll skip rookie pilot then.

@V2C: It's 5 per level for both special forces and rookie pilots. And IIRC, 5 for the
first tier of fighter/bomber pilots also.

Is crew growth the same? I never really looked into it since. If so you gain a small
amount of support ability as well.

I skipped Rookie and jumped straight to Fighter/Bomber before.

Zero Negative Effects whatsoever, considering the crew growth rate is the same and
aircraft stat,if it was actually activated when the CV patch came out, only effects
scouts.

That should be accurate. I'm using the same reasoning on some pilots in an IJN CV crew.
