I personally would consider the range difference to be a substantial issue. Especially
for scout sniping.

"at high levels, AA gunners will reload the same as rld gunners"
Not if they're classed anywhere near on time. Unless you feel like getting 200-300+ vets
on a set of boosted elite reloaders. Keeping them as armament sailors past 100 will make
hitting the reload cap a reasonable proposition.

Admittedly, I've got a set of armament sailors that I'll (hopefully) end up classing
someday to take advantage of the 6"/47 A on the Montana/Nebraska...

I kept armament sailors until about level 91 and then classed them. At level 107 the A
guns fire at a slightly faster rate than RLD gunners on D guns and much better than N/L
guns. However the short range compared to everyone's AA guns is painful. The last minute
salvos are absolutely devastating to bomber wings and any fighters stupid enough to loiter
in range.

It's really hard to deal with any players micromanaging scouts or fighters to keep them
out of range. You're going to have a really hard time keeping the enemy blind if they are
diligent about keeping their planes outside your range.

So in short:
Anything that gets close to you will most certainly die. often before they can even react.
If people are mindful enough to keep their planes out of your range, you're in real trouble.

The extra space for AA shells and lighter gun weight is rather nice as well....

at high levels, AA gunners will reload the same as rld gunners (late classing of arm
sailor to aa gunner may help, although i didnt see any tests on this yet). So i'm taking
the reload issue out.

the specialized AA guns, after the buff, are now able to do more dmg. however, the range
of US AA is limited.
rld gunners get the weaker normal guns, but you can choose to use the N or L versions of
the guns to gain more range (even the Ds have more range than the A guns in some cases),
at the cost of a slightly longer reload time.

pros and cons. the choice is yours.
personally, i have a pair of 9/12 rld gunners, going rld all the way, now at lvl91. its
nice to be able to use these gunners even as main gunners when i'm leveling lower levels.
I'd like to see comments from someone who leveled up AA gunners to high levels

Moved to US area.

Read up on the crew guides at the top of the forum here. You'll see that Reload gunners
are the way to go for US ships, and you'll even discover why. =)
