SUMMARY: For those that do not want to read and want a brief response. 1) What is the difference in ability percentage between 50 Vets/100 Vets/150 Vets/200 Vets on a sailor. 2) What is the difference in ability between a lvl 120 +9 and a level 120 +12 3) Does the percentage multiplier from the extra vets equal out to the difference between the ability.
Without getting into the math too heavily, I'd be skeptical to say a +12 fighter with 100 vets is better than a +9 with 200+ vets. The ability difference between a +9 fighter and +12 fighter will be roughly 360 (assuming both unboosted). Grow increases as pilots are classed, however the increase in grow is the same for both +9 and +12, leaving the difference in growth at 3.
The difference between a +9 and +12 at level one is 25%, or another way of stating it is that the +9 would need its ability at about 134% to equal a +12 at 100%. (how many vets/experts/recruits it takes to achieve this I honestly don't know). Now assuming the growth/ability increases linear (who knows if this is the case) then at level 120, the ability of a +9 would have to be 134% to be equal to a +12 at 100%. Now does an extra 50 or 100 vets do this? I can't answer that question.
Most things in the business/finance world are looked at on a percentage basis and not a number basis. As differences between numbers changes dramatically based on the size of the numbers (particularly in this game where your starting at 20-25 and ending at several thousands).
Bear in mind these numbers/percents are taken from a very simplistic standpoint. If I was interested enough in this I could trace percentage increases from vets at various levels and compare the abilitys based on the percent multiplier. And this may all be moot when compared to True Ability.
