  • Auto and Manual FCS Questions

Hi, I'm new to this game. I have a few questions about both types of FCS regarding both
technical and gameplay issues.

1) I have read multiple forum threads that encourage the use of Manual FCS. However, after
comparing all FCS up to the CA stage, I notice that there is no accuracy difference
between Auto and Manual. In fact, Auto FCS has a further scan range. Thus, other than
practicing for the BB stage, is there any reason at all for me to use Manual FCS during
the CA stage and below?

2) When it comes to the using the Manual FCS, it's great when i have the option to have
the firing lines cross each other for close range. I have no problem playing around with
the controls at long range. However, when ships start to close into my ship, i find myself
facing difficulty guessing the gun angles to shoot according to the enemy's relative
position. This is problem i face all the time in Blitzkrieg Mode. May I have some opinions
from players who have encountered this issue?

3) I saw somewhere on the forums that using Auto FCS will impose a XP penalty on my
sailors. Is this true?

4) After reading some threads on preparing for the BB stage, i notice they encourage
players having gunners who are much higher level than the BO, and the support sailors
trailing the BO. While doing so may increase the performance of the guns, I'm curious as
to why the support sailors should be of a lower level than the BO?

5) Continuing for question 4, is it really a practical method to achieve high performance
in your ships? counting in Credits, Points for creating the sailors and time etc?

Thank you for for your time.

To expand on point 1, for higher tier ships (eg: BBs), aiming has a better accuracy
revision than auto. For FF-CA levels, being able to cross one's lines help immensely when
facing small ships. Also, auto is (in my limited experience) not very smart about
choosing angles. Lower angle and longer range guns will tend to miss a lot.

edit: And yes, the lost art of high angling requires manual.

For 2, I tend to use shell markings from my last shot (eg: "that'll be 2 degrees
less..."). Also, a certain amount of subconscious guessing from practice, and an
awareness that each degree at low angles affects my range rather more than at high angles.

What Junkers101 said for 3.

As for 4, that's because it's hard to keep support sailors higher level than one's BO.
Even when running 2 BOs, the large number of supports ultimately needed, and the fact that
supports gain less exp than gunners or BOs makes them fall behind. If it were easier, I
would strongly recommend having supports well above the BO.

5) You tend to gain more credits/points running 2 BOs in the long run. Especially if you
end up doing a lot of AAing in CLs, or playing a lot of blitzes.

1. The best AA ships are below CA stage. You'll have a hard time shooting down planes if
you're using Auto. Though I haven't tried it, but I think High Angling is also hard on auto.

2. Usually, the lower angles you use, the more accurate your spread becomes. To get used
to your angles, you can play the "Test Mission" mission (the one when you're up against 4
BBs). They are moving targets, and those ships can't really sink you.

3. True. Same as above post.

4 and 5. I think the idea is to have crew with levels higher than the ship's level. It is
more fun to use ships with it.

1)Accuracy- Even though they bough have the same accuracy revision manual is more accurate
by far because you can cross the guns.

2)Keep trying, with enough practice geusing the range will almost be instinctual, i hade
the same problem but it gets much easier.

3)Yes you get less credits, points, and XP when using auto instead of manual.

4)Never let your supports fall behind your bo, if enything your bo should be the lowest
level sailor in your crew.

Good luck
