  • Armour on York & Sirius

I have read in some post, and maybe not fully understanding some info, that belt armour
does not necessarily need to be too thick.

Would 0.3" be just fine? I have placed 3.0" thick and still got shot up badly. Moreover,
due to that thickness, my deck (), buldge (), and speed are compromised.

What should I do? How much (Deck, Belt, Bulge) is enough?

um on county it took me about 8 inches to bounce every DD and like 10 or 11 to
bounce everything but BB :) so fun

it depends on what you want to be,
SW or AW. if you have Sirius and some
credits put 8plus belt... that will bounce
most DD shells ( not all of course) and then
put the rest into bulge. about 40 or 50bulge.
that is what i did.

Becoming reliant on Armor will likely be regretted later on. The only exceptions I can
really see are in tier capped rooms BB1-3, FL, etc as on some UK ships you can mount
enough armor to bounce/be effective against like tiered ships. Armor a lion to take BB4
shells and sacrafice speed and a gun, only to get hit by a Yammy, SY, Monty, etc with 40+
degree angle and hard hitting power and you'll be either hoping they run out of OH or
can't aim.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Well, I have stopped York for the time being.

But, for Sirius, I managed to reshuffle the armour to some effect. With some 5" belt,
1"deck and some bulge, and as equally important, lvl 50 gunners, the effect was great!

I could be swamped by 2-4 DDs and CLs in some battles, and actually survived to sink them
or to see them sink. Oh, of course, this only occurs in Blitz.

Reading the posts by Mor_Idn almost made me cry as much as Starkiller's ultimate FF to BB
guide...

Having experience in both lines, 6" triples on the county is a fail. bad range bad damage
and the rld isn't that good... the spread isn't good either compared to a) the york's 8"
trips or b)the county/surrey's 8" duals if used properly.

As for "Heavy armour isn't as great as it looks when you can't dodge shells from PCAs and
BB1s"

...

The classification of "Heavy armour" is armour that will bounce anything up to the Yammy/
SYs guns. e.g. anything that will bounce BB4 shells not including the yammy, and maybe the
H44s shells.

I.e. easily enough to keep taking PCA and BB1 shells... meaning you don't need to dodge
them...either way with the county i found that i did just as well with or without armour
as long as I used the HA range. Same with Surrey, which is an amazing ship and the people
knocking it can't HA.

6" County is a giant fail. If you want to see why you should join one of my blitz rooms.

2nd best. the PCA Furius can have trip 15" guns, although you're a pretty large and
easy target in the thing.

I stand corrected, my appologies.

I didn't take the York route *shrugs* so I don't believe I posted anything specific about
that one other than my preference to 6" trips on the country (which of course would be
the Surrey as well).

as for the Sirius, that's what I found to be a good combination of armour, firepower and
speed.

heavy armour isn't as good as it seems at times if you can't maneuver out of the way
very well of bigger guns like those on a PCA or BB1, or from torpedoes.

@ Mor_idin:

Please make sure you know what you are talking about before spreading false information.
Nothing in your post is even remotely true.

For bouncing shells Belt armor is only good for close fighting. The Sirius is good for
belt armor because it has limited range so you will be fighting pretty close with it. Load
up as much belt as you can carry since you have alot of displacement to play with.

York on the other hand is a range fighting ship. Generally you want to use deck on ships
like this. York cannot carry enough armor to effectively bounce shells though so it is
better to leave it off and go for speed.

Belt does however have other uses. A small amount of belt (.2") can cut torpedo damage in
half. Add in some bulge armor and you can survive quite a few non submarine torpedoes.
Just dont go too crazy with it so you can maintain a decent speed.

Something that you may eventually figure out is that Speed is always better then armor in
the long run, especially when you are fighting skilled players that know what AP is for
and who to use it on.
