Hello NF players,

I hope you are doing well, but I guess many of you may not be as there are many
complaints about the new Hackshield program. First off, I am the one who decided to
implement this program into Navy Field. To our veteran players, you may remember
that we tried to implement an anti-hack program called "nProtect" 5 years ago.
However, we had to pull that program out due to major problem. After this, we
began checking for hacking programs or exploits through our internal scan system.
This worked well until we kept finding advanced hacking programs that were unable
to be detected with our scan method.

I know that there are only a few players using hacking tools, but because of those
few players we have spent a considerable amount of money to purchase this
Hackshield license; I'm serious when I note that it is quite expensive. These players
can potentially cause enough harm to warrant the decision however. I am also really
sick and tired of threats received from these hackers boasting that if I don't give in to
their demands that they will continue releasing new hacking tools. Some of them
went so far as requesting money. It's just out of our hand to handle all the hacks for
Navy Field; we do not have any other choice except to use this countermeasure. I
also really wish to not have to resort to this; it would be best for both players and us
to save that money and time and not have to worry about any complaints or issues.
However, the reality is not so great.

Hacking tools will kill NF. It is really important to block all hacking tools from online
games which is why almost all online games use some form of anti-hacking program
including the most famous ones such as World of Warcraft. I know that it's still not
perfect but it blocks 100% of the hacking tools that we have in our lab. Also, it will
block new tools if we find them. Hackshield has been proven by many companies as
more than 100 companies are using this. If it's not safe enough then I don't believe
so many companies would be using it. Therefore, I made a choice to have potentially
less players with a safer NF environment over more players with hacking tools use
rampant and spreading across the servers. There will be no pulling back this time.

Thank you.

RIP Navyfield.

I haven't played in months and probably never will again because I seriously doubt that there will be
a North America server to come back to for it will be deemed economical suicide to run one here by
the time removing the rootkit is even considered.

OH for 4 min is nothing for some players. I have saw over 5 min OH. The problem is
this HackShield is crap. It crashes, locks up, and causes too many other errors and
not to mention, since its activation... how many players have been lost? Hundreds.
SDE is losing more money using this piece of crap HackShield than it is worth. I have
tried to play a few times (even though I said I wouldnt) and each time, I get MAYBE
1 game in and the damn thing crashes me to desktop or freezes up and I need to
control, alt, delete to close it. SDE has been making poor choices the past 2 years or
so, but this by far is the worse.

And dont say its better because you see people cheat. I have been playing for quite
a while and have only saw one MAYBE two players who cheat. People having such
range, as you say, isnt possible. Period. You cant hack those mechanics of the game.
The range of ships is based on the ship type and weapons, hacking that would hack
SDE systems and change all ship ranges of that type and weapons, not just the
players. What you were seeing is players use longer ranger weapons that somone
who chooses damage over range. Now, I am not saying you CANT hack, because it
can be done... but for automation of players, auto sailor rolling, ect... everything else
is based off of SDE server and systems, and again, hacking into those and chaging a
sum of numbers would change everyones.

Anyway, just my 2 cents again on this poor choice from SDE.

"I have seen ships stay on OH for over 4 minutes"

6 - 120 B/v/e Engies plus a 100+ level seaman can do this.

Sure, it might be a step forward, But look at Combat Arms for example. They use the Pro
version of Hackshield. They are still one of the most hacked games on the internet.

Plus for some reason NF's version of hackshield causes random unexplained Crashes. (Not
the old Freeze then crash, just plain termination of the EXE.

i am sure know one will read the 300th post on this topic, but i think HS is a step
forward. how can people say there is not any hacking being done. i have seen AD
out range monty's, not by a little, but by 2 inchs. i seen monty's outrange a nebby's.
I have seen ships stay on OH for over 4 minutes. if u just sit back and watch some
of the players , they were cheating or found a exploit of some type....
btw i have a friend that is a security programmer and he is running test.... 1st
problem is why dont you have your senstive info encrypted ? what do you think
your pc cant be hacked >? get real...

First, to Ackbar25: You need to keep your retarded comments to yourself. This
discussion is for those who want to express how they feel, dont like it, then dont
read it.

Second: HackShield may have cost a bundle to SDE, but with all the players you are
going to lose, that just means losing even more money. The gains do not outweigh
the losses. Would it not have been better to just simply come up with better "Scan"
methods rather than resorting to this drastic of a move? The servers had to be
merged because the player numbers were dwindling rapidly and something had to
be done to have more battles and more games played. Well, I ask you this the SDE,
what will happen when you must merge the last 2 servers together and then the
numbers drop even further? Will this then make you remove HackShield and
apologize to all the lost players who may never come back?

Third: I hate to say it, but I will also be leaving the game unless this is resolved. I
have been playing for a few years, with more then 1 account, and the only person I
ever saw hacking/cheating was a player who used a program to automate his
account so it would play itself...and it was reported about a million times and never
once was he banned or suspended. If you want the ultimate "Hack Shield" then all
you would need to do is reward players who turn in others for cheating. Far less
expensive and the player base would not be dropping like it is.

I will be randomly checking back now and then to see if this disaster has been
resolved or not. I certainly hope it is; NavyField WAS an amazing game with great
potential and I for one would love to see it rise once again from the ashes of this
disaster.

Good thing SDE is going to read 30 pages of comments from people that spent their whole day trying to think
of some smart ass comment...personally...all the players that commented here come off as jack asses
