Yep, if you cant shoot off the visible screen, the G key won't work to center your
ships/go to shells. However, if you are looking somewhere on the map nowhere near your
ship, it should be able to work. If not, press f10 and make sure your G key is set correctly.

I would mention that centering works only if your ship is not visible on screen.
