well, what do u mean by "I'll never see them used in my lifetime"?

1. are you that old?

2. do you mean used for demonstrational purposes or used in actual ship-to-ship combat?

cause if it's the latter, then I'd truly hope that I never see them used either...

*war and sinking ships is fun, but only in the world of cyberspace*

I think the important thing about these ships is that they are the in-between to the
DDG-1000 Zumwalt Class. It won't be saving loads of money like Zumwalt's policies
were as CNO, but they are giving the Navy the info they need to be prepared to
install the railgun systems on the three that they have ordered once those are
ready (and stable...) If they can get the railguns working, those things will be the
next "battleships" with their ability for ultra-long range destructive power! Too bad
I'll prolly never see it put to use in my lifetime...

Great in theory, but extremely high cost for little in return makes them less attractive
than they could've been. Many of the modules that are supposed to go with the ships
have yet to actually be designed and several have been cancelled.

The low manpower of the vessels, while great for saving costs, has also put significantly
higher strain and stress on the crews that are serving on them. Not to mention the
disadvantages when it comes to damage control.

These LCS are pretty fast, but that's not the neat thing about them.

What makes them unique is the module system they've created for them, literally allowing
them to play any role from logistics to assault.

LCS-2 Independence, it's the US Navy's second in a series of Litoral Combat Ships.
Got to tour it while it was under construction, and it is incredible! Since they are
minimizing crew, there is no galley staff (dish washing), everyone takes care of their
own dishes and silverware. The bridge was actually a pretty cool setup. As
opposed to most current craft that can have upwards of 12 or more watchstanders
on the bridge controlling the ship, this baby has 3 chairs with laptop computers that
control everything needed by the ship! That's right, this thing can pretty well
function just fine with only like 8 people aboard total (if you count manning the
weapon systems and someone running the engines). It's a helluva ship, for sure!
