  • Easy ways to Improve the game, without Major Rewrites.

I think that by doing a few easy steps will make SS1 subs better.

1. Reducing the training level of the Planeman to 25 not 30.
2. Compression speed based on engine speed. The motors run the compressers.
Except for the first item all can be done without big changes to the game now.

Maybe having the option to "Snorkel" would help WW2 Subs.

ASW.
I think that Scouts should be able to spot subs, not at crash dive depth, any ship with a
Sonarman should be able to spot subs but, no one else. This prevents people from using
the mini map to spot subs. Subs are designed to be invisible in water. If the other
players do not have a Sonarman, that is their option. Sonarman are the sub crews "eyes".

The NF Subamrine Manual says,"Submarines cannot detect other enemy submarines which are
submerged without a sonarman."

So why can other ships spot subs for free without a sonarman?

Just by using the Mini map?

how about having recon pilots, which is a upgrade from rookie pilots and is an alternative
to fighter and bombers. Recons pilots then can be classed into either Advance Recon, ASW
pilot or Fighter-Recon.

Advance Recon: Improves the sighting Range and flight time but the recon is unable to
defend with its own guns

ASW pilot: Has sonar and is able to drop depth charges but is slower than other recon pilots

Fighter-recon: Improves the speed and attack of the recon plane but its sighting range is
heavily reduced

Maybe this will help, Nyerkovic

In what way it would benefit having the planesman at 25 instead of 30 seeing that the
first SS comes arround lvl36?

I see the fact that to raise a sailor to level 30, as fast as a Commander levels, to be
no small feat.

***A sailor must level to 12 then to spend 2000 points for sailor, then spend 10000 points
for Support Sailor, then spend 30000 points and be 30th level in support sailor to qualify
for Sonar. I know of no one person that has ever raised a sailor to level 30 and spent
42,000 points at the same time their Commander made 36th level. Do you??

Also, could you elaborate on the compression speed based on engine? I don't understand
what you want from that.

*** A compressor works faster if you run the pumps faster. A sub setting still takes a
long time to compress air. A sub running at near red line, goes faster. So should the
rate of compression. I thought that a sub to full speed should not be limited to a
compressor running on slow.

Only FFs and DDs can spot subs without sonarman. This is because first, sonarman comes at
level 12 and FFs are used before reaching that lvl and second, because people that are
creating a BB or CV crew can be useful ASW ships without having to level an extra sailor
just for the few levels they are on a DD.

***I understood everything you said up to ," and second, because people that are creating
a BB or CV crew can be useful ASW ships without having to level an extra sailor just for
the few levels they are on a DD. " So your saying it should be free skill?

The only thing that you said that was good was scouts be able to see Subs. What
was not good was the snorkel idea because then subs will nere come to the surface.

The one real reason people say SS are unbalance are:

KM has proximity torps

That is the real reason, fix that, fix the subs

You want every ship to be able to sight submarines as long as they've got
sonar/asdic operators onboard? I say NO as this would allow battlecruisers,
battleships and heavy cruisers to conduct thier own A/S and destroyers would
therefore slip back into almost uselessness.

Also I must say that no surface ship can sight an enemy submarine at crash depth (
at least I assume its crash depth as I've never used a submarine but they always
dive and I am unable to damage them or see them) so allowing a scout to sight
submarines exept when at crash depth would be no different than sonar/asdic
capable ships. Also you cannot see submarines on your minimap unless they are
actually sighted already by yourself or a teammate?

I think in order to balance A/S just more destroyers are required, so some
expierience boost to destroyers, seeing as that seems to be all people care about,
would be good.

so the easiest way to improve the game is to improve the ability of subs to kill things?

Maybe if you add more ASW improvments, like extra exp for ASW use, your idea might get a
warmer welcome
