Over where I live, we're plagued by the "Mat Rempit" problem, who are essentially
a group of motorbike gangsters who perpetrate all sorts of crime - from robbery to
assault - in huge groups to intimidate people.

Personally, I wouldn't feel a tinge of sadness if a car were to plough through them,
for I say society would be safer and better off with them dead.

What happened in the video shown on this thread is regrettable, for those are
probably innocent people.

But I can only wish somebody would have done the same to more deserving idiots
like the Mat Rempits here.

@Leeuwerik- seems to be a unorganized protest sort of event, they seem to protest by
clogging roads by riding in a big group or rather use subversion tactics. Though I'm a
fan of bicycling, especially for a good cause/group rides or races. After reading about
this type of event/group(whatever you call it), they do have some questionable
dealings, especially conflicts with motorists and police.

I like the advocacy for bikes on roads or having their own paths but not the mobs-on-
wheels mentality...

Q: And this kind Critical mass is with permission from municipal authority ? or its
spontaneous action.

(Because in our state we got full municipal and state police support for this actions. With
many policemen on bikes and rear of the peloton is protected with patrol cars).

On February 25, 2011, a car driver collided with around 20 cyclists who were
participating in the Critical Mass in Rua Jos?do Patrocinio in Porto Alegre, in
southern Brazil. 150 people were taking part in the event. Dozens of bicycles were
damaged, 15 people were injured and 8 were taken to the emergency room. The
driver left the scene of the incident. Demonstrators remained on the street
demanding that the driver be found and arrested. The driver was later identified as
47-year old Ricardo Jos?Neis. After Neis was taken into custody by police, his
attorney, Luis Fernando Coimbra Albino, stated that the driver was acting in self-
defense after several cyclists threatened him and his son and assaulted his car.

I think that it is bull **** that the cyclists assaulted Ricardo... He is just a ***** and
needs to spend the rest of his life in prison.

That's really sad. I have done the critical mass in San Diego a few times and once in San
Francisco and I could never imagine someone ever doing something like that.

I read more about this and feel sorry for the cyclists. Thankfully nobody was killed, still
thats just insane how somebody can do that. I hope all the injured heal up fast and get
on their bikes.

I like to ride my bicycle and I thought some drivers were insane but this one takes the
cake. I guess the driver was supposedly threatened by a cyclist and then proceeded to
plow through cyclists. Afterwards ditching his car, taking the plates off said car, and
then turning himself in 3 days after the ordeal and claiming self defense.
