Im new to this game but am really enjoying it. Are there any tips that anyone can
give me on strategies to use for the Great Battles? Im currently high enough level
for dd's, but get killed before I even get in range of anyone. Being unhelpful sucks :(

Hey Mako...

Now don't start...
The nf-guides web site can't be stressed enough.
Most all answers are there.
for data on ship/guns/nations etc
go to www.trainworld.us
and if you do try AA , try to keep those enemy planes off your team

Best of Luck
See ya around the Oceans of NF

There must be a full moon because people usually aren't this polite or helpful
in Navyfield. You have been warned, this is not normal. Before you can say
"don't cross noob," people will start flaming you so get your defenses up as
soon as you can ;)

Again, Thank you to everyone for the advice. Its rare to find a game like this that is
fun AND has players who are experienced and willing to help the new guys out. Im
excited about the rumors of a newer version of NF too. Hopefully they'll make a
great game even better!

as mako said - try AA'ing. It is a great way to learn manual aiming, but also will be the
most help (other than perhaps anti-SS) to your team.

for good exp... hit stuff bigger than you
find a buddy to play with and gang up on ships

welcome to nf :)

by the end of next week you will get a hang of it.... ask in-game for some
help...almost all of us out there willing to help you

"unhelpful sucks :( " ... dont worry about it...they will yell at you later on when your
in a bb or cv doing nothing :) but for now they wont

most bb i know will let the new guys get close to make a few hits to make a bit of
exp...they make more by shooting the big stuff instead wasting ammo on you ... so
just try to rush up and kick em in the nutz :D

if you can wait for that break in the line like some mention..you may be lucky enough
to sail around the line and get behind and tag a carrier and make some really good
experience :)

we all have been where you are

It's a hard thing to do when you are new and enthusiastic but waiting until
the numbers thin down and supporting near the end helps (especially when
your team is winning). At the start of the game, each side will likely have 10
Battleships. If you wait until the BB numbers are 5 or less and while
they are engaged with the ones on your team, you might be able to even
attack and lend a hand. It's about timing and patience but when you're new,
I can't blame you for wanting to get in on the action sooner. Also consider
Anti Aircraft weapons. Excellent experience, good credits, you can do it from
a safe area, and each plane shot down helps your team.

If your feeling adventurous, there is something else you can try in GBs.

Strip your ship down to minimum weight, and learn to dodge BB fire by rushing them. This
will teach you about how to maneuver in a ship, it'll show you how to ration & use your
engine overheat to get out of trouble, and it can REALLY annoy BB drivers when they try to
hit you and miss. Also, your helping by keeping the enemy ships lit up, and every shot
they take at you, is one they AREN'T taking at the BBs on your team, giving them a chance
to win the game. If you pick your moment & opening, you can try to get behind the BB line
and harass their CVs by shooting them. Many is the time I've been plinking away at an
enemy CV (from a distance) and had the enemy BBs shoot at me, miss, and sink their own CV }B)

So long as you get close enough to land a single shell on an enemy BB, you're gonna get
some decent XP, and you're contributing to the battle.
