in my netbook i use licensed avg 2011 while in my desktop is microsoft essential (free to
licensed os :) ) they are both great, usb scan software for and usb storage device,
ccleaner to clean unneeded file after using your computer, and monthly maintainance
(defragment of hard disk, virus scanning) thats how i speed up my comp :)

Avast! Anti-Virus free
CCleaner
IObit toolbox 1.2 (has junk file remover, registry cleaner, etc.)
IObit Smart defrag 2

I prefer Avira Antivir to AVG. Had some infections that AVG couldn't solve and Avira did.
There are several comparison sites to check. Have had Spybot for eons and have always
been satisfied but over the last couple of years it seems to have gotten a little bloated.
Malwarebytes is good and CCleaner is a good general/reg cleaner. Eraser is good for
wiping free space or stuff you don't want found. Crypto software I would recommed would
be FreeOTFE or TrueCrypt.

And for a free fun visual representation of your Hard drive try SequoiaView.

Most people are not aware that only 1 antivirus will not pick up everything, certain
different software are better in other area's then others.

I have run the following on both my computers, one being 8 years old very low specs
and runs like a dream and my new one only 3 months old high spec and runs super
fast.

A well looked after PC will last for years if kept safe and clean.

Below are the different software which i have use, tried tested and rec to any i know,
I also repair PC's and use the same software listed and never have a customer need
my help again.

I run 1 main antivirus which is AVG free Edition which i scan everyweek.

I also run the following: -

Daily Scans: -

Ccleaner
Advancedsystemclean (Quick and Deep Scan - Daily defrag etc takes mins and keeps
PC clean and Free)
Evidence Eliminator


Weekly Scans (When running software apart from AVG please disable AVG while
doing so as they conflict with each other)

malwarebytes
Superantispyware
Clamwin
spybotsearchanddestroy


All the above are free to use and im sure will keep your computer clean and free of
spyware.

If you have never used the above, you will find that they will pick up things on your
computer as running only 1 antivirus will never protect you 100%.
