flourdie does harden teeth. but if too much is used it starts to make them so hard they
become brittal. and brittal teeth means more chance of cavity's forming.

as for the chloride content in water, its been dramatically reduced, now its only trace
amounts used.

although in swimming pools its still largely used. soi dont swallow the water ;) not just
cause of chloride either, some one might have done a wee wee !! lol

I wouldn't worry about the floride content in water most city water supplies have a
higher concentration of chlorine then your average swimming pool. Trust me i used
to test water. Hell where i live now there is so much calcuim and lime in the water
even the chlorine is better for you. It destroys water softeners and water hearters
and causes the seals in water fausets to go bad quickly so your always fixing or
replacing them after just a couple years. Bottled water is mostly just filtered tap
water unless it says spring water or steam distilled.

I thought fluoride hardened teeth--resulting in less cavities with its harder to erode
enamel. At the same time, though, it caused more teeth to crack (as they became harder).

Or am I just completely blowing it out of my ass?

There have been some more recent studies that suggest fluoride might not give any real
benefits in preventing tooth decay on the levels that are added to water, and its addition
to tap water has no real effect on tooth decay. It is still one of the more harmless
additives/ingredients in our (US) drinking water. Its addition to tooth paste and fluoride
treatments at dental offices are still beneficial in healthy tooth enamel.

Fluoride is also present in tooth paste...

There are all sorts of things to be concerned about in drinking water: mercury, lead,
estrogen, asbestos, other hard metals, plastics. Filtering standards for some are so low
(or in some cases, not even screened for) that tap water can be frightening to drink. Most
bottled water is either a byproduct of other drink production or lightly-filtered tap
water, so have fun with that.

The cumulative effects, however, are still better for you than drinking soda, most juices,
coffee, beer, energy drinks, etc.

I am pretty sure they don't, or at least in very low levels in Holland. Whenever I am
abroad the tapwater is disgusting.

chlorine is in a lot of peoples tap water too, but at low levels at least for city water.
This is pretty bad your just finding this out now. I'm sure a lot of us were told by our
parents or teachers while we were in Elementary school.
