For the sake of a stimulating discusssion, what does everyone else think of this
controversial and far out theory?

Basically, Ancient Astronaut theory proposes that in ancient times, the Earth was
visited by extra-terrestrials from other civilizations in the universe. And mankind,
with limited knowledge of science, believed them to be gods and thus worshipped
them, perhaps giving rise to religions.

Also, it is also proposed that these advanced visitors gave primitive man assistance,
knowledge and tools that enabled them to accomplish great feats in engineering
and mathematics, among others.

Reasons for:
- Civilizations from all four corners of the world, developing in isolation from each
other, somehow came to share the common concept of God descending from the
skies, as well sharing many other motifs in their relics.
- Was this just coincidence, or points to misunderstood, alien visitations?
- With an almost infinite amount of galaxies out there, surely intelligent life
developed somewhere else?
- Chinese culture talks of deities descending on fire-breathing dragons. Could this
simply be spacecraft with exhaust propulsion?
- Many ancient wonders, e.g. the Pyramids, Stonehenge and the Moai on Easter
Island, would be quite a challenge to construct even with today's modern
technology. Yet societies thousands of years ago achieved it. Could they have had
some help?

Reasons against:
- There is no solid evidence supporting these beliefs. All there is, is pure conjecture
and speculation.

Personally, I feel it is plausible, though not entirely probable. This concept is so out
of left field, that it becomes quite fascinating. But for now, I'll agree that it is pure
speculation. Perhaps one day we'll know for sure.

What say you?

Xtremecarnage, I would think any intelligent alien life would have a spirit of
exploration just like us, to find new worlds and perhaps meet another civilization.

We don't what they are yet (if they exist), so it's premature to assume that they
have nothing to gain from us, or if we might be of interest to them or otherwise.

On an Earthly level, I suppose if early Europeans shared your line of thinking, they
would never have discovered America, or many other lands around the world.

"When thinking about aliens that can traverse the stars you have to realize that they
have biological, racial, cultural, technological and moral differences."

holy shit are you like michael jacksons heir or something? how do you know they arent a
single civilization who traverses the galaxy in search of crazy drunk rednecks to anal probe?

"Would they have any need for earth ? earth might be un-inhabitable for them. Would they
have anyneed to interact with us ?"

i would think they have a need to interact with us given all of the crazy UFO stories out
there and especially how a top secret US government installation that doesnt exist has
been proven to exist over and over again.

" we are so primitive theres no gain to them."

finally something truthful in your post, but they could stand to gain something from us.

"They dont need the resources, cause space is abundant with resources. Most likely they
wouldn't need us for food or our plant life either, being so advanced they have
everything they need already. Most likely they would seek out intelligent life (what
they deem intelligent)."

when did you become an expert on advanced alien civilizations? How do you know they dont
need nitrogen? maybe they are like frieza in DBZ where they can survive in outer
space(never did understand that) maybe their homeworld was destroyed and they lack raw
methane to power their ships and somehow find these primitive mammals called humans from
the planet E-arth
contain a lot of it from all of the posting done on these forums.

"They could judge our civilization just by intercepting our radio waves, they wouldnt
even need to visit to find out about us. And thats assuming they got that close to us
which is unlikely seeing as the galaxy itself is so huge our radio waves dont even
cover 0.1% of it."

So lets see here, you are most likely an heir to michael jackson, an expert in the needs
of any alien civilization, and now an expert in ways to communicate with them. Are you
like ET or something? should i call the government and let them know how amazing you are?
Radio waves are the most LOGICAL approach in making contact with an extraterrestrial
species based on HUMAN calculations. nothing more nothing less.

Aliens do exist, the universe is too huge for there not to be

Aliens visiting us is hogwash, again the universe is too huge

heres what people dont understand. The universe is crazy big, so big we cant
comprehend it.

When thinking about aliens that can traverse the stars you have to realize that they
have biological, racial, cultural, technological and moral differences. Would they have
any need for earth ? earth might be un-inhabitable for them. Would they have any
need to interact with us ? we are so primitive theres no gain to them. They dont
need the resources, cause space is abundant with resources. Most likely they

which is unlikely seeing as the galaxy itself is so huge our radio waves dont even
cover 0.1% of it.

Snoweman, yup, I snickered and thought that guy was an alien too the first time I
saw him. His hair is just weird.

Minted_cow, I believe that extra-terrestrial life, if they do exist, would be a mixture
of everything. At one end of the scale you might have simple, single cell organisms,
while at the opposite end you might have intelligent beings capable of interstellar
travel.

Sometimes I do wonder whether we're looking at the right places in the search for
aliens. Because till now, our search has mainly focused on finding planets that are
similar to Earth. But does a planet really have to be like Earth to support life?

We're assuming that what holds true about life here, will also hold true elsewhere.
But perhaps life elsewhere does not follow the same principles or conform to the
same physics we do here.

Scientists have found microorganisms living in boiling hot lava vents underwater,
where life was never thought able to exist previously. Thus, who's to say that similar
single-cell life couldn't exist in the lava flows of Venus?

We're carbon based. But what if other lifeforms, are for example, sulphur based
instead?

While we cannot fathom that ever happening due to our biological make up, and
the laws of physics we're governed by, what if evolution took a very different path in
another totally different world?

"But what are they? Less advanced than us? More? Friendly? Bloodthirtsy? "

i'd lean more towards more intelligent, highly advanced with a hint of what humans
perceive as gay....and bloodthirsty

*runs away from the bloodthirsty homo aliens*

Wasn't there some discovery years ago that multiple culters miles and miles apart,
that had no way of communicating, had the excact same alien head symbols carved
into their buildings/temples/pyramids?

I've watched many of these shows but I all ways forget lots of things. It also creeps
me out a little. Theres so much space out there that we are most certainly not
alone. But what are they? Less advanced than us? More? Friendly? Bloodthirtsy?

@Erad
I love that theroy
In my words,
If god is real he can not be proven
God can not be proven so he cant be real?

got to love a conundrum

My Answer to that is...
-The Drake equation
A mathematical equation supporting the understanding that we are not alone...

while in his book "Chariots of the Gods" Erich von D?iken presents a lot of great and
very interesting arguments, one needs to learn to not take all of this with a grain of salt.

History channel ran a program called "Ancient Aliens" in which one of the chief proponents
was Erich von D?iken. it was a great documentary overall imo.

I do agree it is asinine to believe humans are the only form of life in the universe,
however there is also no proof to support claims of other beings existence, so in the
meantime believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you read and then form
your own opinion.

also my own theory on how the pyramids were built relates to the story of the nephilim.
the book of enoch (lost book of the bible) gives a very interesting description.
