The UK did pretty good in the Falklands considering the state of the navy at the time - the goverment were just about to sell off our last 2 carriers, the Argentinian airforce way outnumbered our Harriers like 4:1 (our Harriers and GR3's still pwned them), and the mostly outnumbered marines (who made their army look like a bunch of fairys.) Aaannnd it was all a last minute thing. To be fair, we did also use the hunter-killer submarine h4x.
One big failure of the Falklands was intelligence; the goverment didn't want to believe that a country like Argentina would start a fight with a nuclear power, even though they were blatantly saying to us "Sort it out or we'll take the islands by force." Any warnings fell on deaf ears because the gov. at the time was all about saving money by killing off our armed forces. Some people say that Argentina misinterpreted our apparent lack of interest in the build-up as us saying 'it's ok, take the islands - we won't fight.' By the time Argentina realised we were fighting and they had used up their few exocet missles they didn't have a hope in hell.
Interestingly, the UK would have been happy to give the Falklands away but the islanders were really stubborn about remaining British, even though Argentina offered them some really sweet deals. Funnily enough some of the islanders said they prefered the Argentinias while they occupied to the Marines, the latter were said to be far more scary :)
We lost a few ships, 20-30 sorties a day does that, but compared to that certain loss inflicted on that certain country's navy in one single day it's peanuts.
