i use Mark 13L
i use DD III engine

why...
more binds...
more armor...

but...

still huge outranged...
still huge dmged...every other CA has more higher dmging shell than NH/Portland/NO class

== armor is useless...
need more SD...

I have the MK 16 D's on my Portland, I like the faster reload even though I lose
range.

ManiacDC
that range difference is about equal to a shipwidth or 2... that's a large diff.

i've used both mk13L and mk14 on New Orleans. bottom line, mk13L performance
was pitiful compared to mk14.

like you said, mk14 has a higher level req, so it will take more ability for good
spread. but once that requirement is met, there is little point in keeping mk13s.

and with all the idiots running around in CAs with DDIII engines, it's not like you'll
have much trouble getting half a centimeter closer. or they *were* idiots until the
1.99 patch rolled around -.-

41 3x 8"/ 55 cal Mark 13 L 24.58 at 41 ?7.24 938
43 3x 8"/ 55 cal Mark 14 23.43 at 41 ?7.56 853

Its 24.58 vs 23.43, which is less than 1/20th extra range, but it can still be
significant. Keeping in mind that 23.43 is only 3 more than the 5/54Ls which you
should definately avoid..

incorrect, mark 14 N are lighter than 13 L, and 13L rld is only .3 seconds faster. Range is quite
a bit more tho on the 13 L.

It's not worth it to jump to "finder". You *might* be able to see the shells landing (not
sure, never tried it) but it's not really relevant. At that range and at your assumedly
low gunnery level your spread is going to be too wild to make adjusting your angles
meaningful. Of course, your spread will be even wilder if you move to "finder".

To toxic, regarding 13L vs 14N, the higher reload of the 13L is a credible reason to stick
with them. While the Mark 14 shells might do more damage per shell, the reload time of the
13L makes up for it. Let's not forget that the 13L's are a lower level weapon (better
spread) and lighter than the 14N (more armor) .

[EDIT: maniacdc corrects me in saying that the 14N are lighter]

I won't say that the 13L's are better, I'm just saying that it's not as cut and dried as
you try to make it look.
