It's not worth it to jump to "finder". You *might* be able to see the shells landing (not sure, never tried it) but it's not really relevant. At that range and at your assumedly low gunnery level your spread is going to be too wild to make adjusting your angles meaningful. Of course, your spread will be even wilder if you move to "finder".
To toxic, regarding 13L vs 14N, the higher reload of the 13L is a credible reason to stick with them. While the Mark 14 shells might do more damage per shell, the reload time of the 13L makes up for it. Let's not forget that the 13L's are a lower level weapon (better spread) and lighter than the 14N (more armor) .
[EDIT: maniacdc corrects me in saying that the 14N are lighter]
I won't say that the 13L's are better, I'm just saying that it's not as cut and dried as you try to make it look.
