  • Avatar Content - Where to draw the line?

Hey,

Just thought i'd quickly discuss, where is the community 'drawing the line' in their Avatars ? From this i mean what is the point where the content is deemed 'Unsuitable' for on a site where there seems to be a lot of little kids (ah, probably horribly mistaken here :P )?

On other games forums, when this has gone unchecked and undecided most members basically ended up using their avatar for soft porno, so i was just wondering whether this will happen here, or whether we will actually have some decisions made on what is 'not suitable' for avatars.

If you support the idea of limiting the content please recommend on :

This way we can have the idea highlighted a bit more prominentely.

Amongst all of that, there is infact a valid point, and that is that it differs from person to person what could be defined 'offensive' or 'unsuitable', what i was aiming to find was generally was the mainstream of the community would agree upon as particular types of pics that would not be allowed.

Anyone that runs up to tank and throws a rock at it is an idiot. Idiots offend me. That is the only thing that I find offensive about the tank picture.

The Israeli tank isn't the source of the Palestinian kid's problem. The source of his problem is the so called leaders of his people. If he is going to throw rocks at anyone, he should be throwing them at the hatemongers that have held the reigns of the Palestinian movement.

...maybe hes a guy whoes house has been bulldozed and hes throwing a rock at bastards that did it?

:) offence is a subjective thing... I'm not going to say I want him to remove it... I just think its in bad taste

See of all the avatars on these forums I find yours the most offensive... because of what it shows... thats an Israeli tank and as you can see, thats a very very desperate Palestinian.

I seem to remember it being attributed to an american...

But it doesn't sound like good old Rouy to me... and Voltaire... I don't think so... I'm not well acquainted with him beyond odd qoutes (while I have actually read some Rou, what with him being part of the Politics side of my course)... anyone know any better? I'm not having much luck with the googling -.-

Indeed... I've found a source saying its Voltaire:

I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Jzuk: That line is probably an Americanized version of Rousseau (Or was it Voltaire?)'s saying of, "I may not like what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." (Or something like that) But anyway, that line came from one of the two philosophers (sp?) I mentioned above.

Wow, i didn't expect 20-odd replies lol but anyways, to continute the discussion:

'About the sad part of our history... i didn't say he can't wear it, i just find disturbing that a kid can go around and look cool with it'

Carmelo actually has a picture of him supposidly as Hitler from a friend joking that he was too bossy i believe.

But you find this 'Offensive Material', and this is exactly what this thread is actually for. We need to find a general line of what most people will tolerate.

For me, i find myself being increasingly reluctant to visit NF forums, whenever a younger relative may be in the room, as I know their parents would (possibly literally) kill me if they were exposed to some of the material some people may be tempted to use as their avatars.

Is their any line being drawn Officially, and what does the community think ?
