Ick - smelly thread. Looks like it's seen the cemetery twice now...
Anyways - between these two ships, the major difference isn't the number of guns, it's the gun placement.
With the Revenge, you get a nice tight line of four turrets that groups very consistently, even if you have Reload gunners and not Acc. With the Renown, your back turret will scatter shots all over the place compared to your front two, which makes it difficult to reliably damage someone else. That and the fact that the Renown demands a KM playstyle without the KM advantages is why the Revenge usually does better.
Also, never AW either ship. Never AW anything along the York line except for the Nelly (and even then beware the perils of doing so). 3" of deck might (and I say might) bounce FF1 shells; if the sky is red, the sunlight at just the right angle, and Saturn is in the third house of the Sun.
Meanwhile, the Revenge lacks the displacement to put on a worthwhile armor setup.
Put your .2 belt and as much bulge without losing a knot, and just try to survive.
