Sorry to break it to you, Jubdub, but books CAN be wrong, and there ARE such things as
"typos", and not all books are equally reliable.

No completed Pre-Colorado Class BATTLESHIP had 16" guns. Even after refitting during WWII.

Colorado had dual 16"

Lexington Class battlecruisers were suppose to have dual 16" guns

North Carolina and South Dakota (1939) used Mark 6 16" 45 Cal guns

Many planned ships after WWII had 16" guns:
South Dakota (1920s) had 4 triple Mark 3 Turrets.

Iowa had Mark 7 16" 50 Cal guns, Montana was designed to carry same guns.

"why doesn't new mex has the 16" trip guns in ww2 it had trip 16""

New Mexico had 14"/50 guns. No Standard-type battleship had 16" triples.

USS New Mexico never had 16" guns.

The Colorado class was the first to use 16" guns (in dual turrets), followed by North
Carolina class, South Dakota (1939) class, and Iowa class, all with triple turrets.

16" triple D is useless if enemy BBs have enough skill
