  • Bee Hive Shells!?

Hi all... I've been studying the IJN for a while now, and I've come across an
interesting idea. Beehive shells! The Japanese B YAMATO had AA Shells for her main
18" Guns. They were like giant shotgun blasts to shred an entire squadron of US
Planes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beehive_(ammunition)#Sanshiki_.28anti-aircraft.29

Read about San-Shiki Dan. Now granted, this may seem overpowered, so I'm looking
for suggestions on how to NERF this as well because otherwise ppl may think it's
cheap. But I did want to mention this; cool for historical accuracy. Perhaps they'd
carry only 1 bind or reload really slow in NF?

EDIT:
The idea was for a longer range AA weapon which produces multiple explosions
(sort of like a cluster bomb) and can bring down more than one plane. Now I know
that sounds really OP'd. ...Being a BB shell, the Beehive would reload crazy slow,
therefore nerfing the capability a bit so it's not overpowered. The other nerf is that
BBs' cannons can't aim at a high angle so they can't shoot down planes that are
about to dive-bomb them. The ability to use these would also be lessened because
the foe would have to be properly scouted in order for you to aim one of these right.
But in some situations I think this could bring something new to NF.

Although the Bee hive shells were a little ... well... useless, they are still a part of
History and deserve to be in the game... This game is about WWII Naval warfare right? Why
leave out a weapon that was used from that time period...

Has this not been suggested before? Also who would waste the spot of carrying ap shells on a bb5 to carry slow
reloading aa guns?

Good idea and would make the game somewhat more interesting, but not really practical.

"Instead they could leave a large black cloud damaging aircraft that fly through it.
A bit like a stream of PomPom bullets suspended in the air."

that's a nice idea and it'd work if the CV driver was monitoring another set of planes,
taking evasive manuevers, or is just plain stupid, but...

1. you could lower you planes so they won't get owned by the big black cloud of impending doom

2. if you can't lower your planes quickly enough, then drag your planes around it...

I think it would be awesome If it was added to 8" guns, it would add a whole new level of play. And 18" AA wouldn't
hurt, they would hinder you from carrying ap but maybe a long range AA shot might save you from impending
disaster of a dive bomber wave?

While it may seem a good idea at first to have an 18" AA shell, realistically who
would choose that over HE or AP ammo. Main gun ammo on Yamato And Super
Yamato is limited allready, and those 2 ships have some of the best Secondary/AA
guns suites in the game.

San-Shiki Dan ( Type 3 Normal Shell ) is used at large caliber gun for AA to shoot
down aircraft 10 thousand yards away , some IJN captain like to use this .
It's very hard to hit enemy aircraft 10 Km away without radar support . And it use 20-
25mm incendy projectile in large caliber shell , even hit , it doesn't deal enough
damege to armored plane . As American pilots said "seems like firework" . Some shot
this at ship or land target , it cause serious fire , but no direct damege to structure .

Type 3 shell used in limited gun . Gunlist :
25mm incendy
3X18.1"/45 Type 94 Yamato Gun
2X16.1"/45 Type 3 Nagato Gun
2X14"/45 Type 41 Ise/Fuso/Kongo Gun
20mm incendy
2X8"/50 Type 3 Mogami(CA) Gun
5"/50 Type 3 Destroyers Main Gun
5"/40 Type 89 High Angle AA Gun

But this will be intresting if IJN have those Type 3 shell . In BB/CA maingun , it can
shot at aircraft far away , but you must give up AP or HE shell . In 5" , It become
another AA shell choice .
